Ok, this is my sophomore year and many of the people in my class, including me, are taking AP Biology. Others opted not to take it. Now when report cards rolled around amost everyone in AP Biology's GPAs dropped by a little. Meanwhile, the CP biology (College Prep) got higher GPAs than most people who are taking AP Biology. Obviously it's easier for them to get a higher class rank. Our school tried doing something about this with weighting but it's still screwed up.

"pwned like a noob"

At my school, AB calc is weighted the same as BC even though in BC, we go twice as fast and our tests are much harder. Sorta makes you question the point of "challenging yourself".

I am in a reverse situation of you. I am in regular chemistry, which is basically taught almost on an AP level, whereas honors chem learns the same things as us and has the same tests! (I've seen all their tests) I find this extremely unfair because they get the more weight. I was supposed to be in honors chem but there was a scheduling conflict so they put me in regular chem:( man I hate my school. When you apply to colleges, they will prefer to see AP bio over regular bio and also you can earn college credit.

they changed your schedule? Are they allowed to do that?

yeah....i know what she means......at my school, we sign up for what we want in may, but then by the time we get our schedules in september, we usually have totally different stuff because of schedule conflicts.

for example, if she signed up for honors chemistry and us history and those classes were during the same period, then the computer program that schedules would fix it and put her in normal chemistry and us history.

this happens a lot at my school with AP classes because 4th period is the longest period of the day, so all the AP teachers want their class to be 4th period. over half (about 10) AP classes are 4th period this year.

i had a three-way 4th period schedule conflict this year and when i got my schedule i was in a lot of weird stuff i didnt sign up for, like pottery and computer programming, i got it changed though.

Well, that's what you get for taking an college Advance Placement course. Don't expect your weighted GPA to cover for you. Weighted GPA means very little. It's the unweighted GPA that matters. Sure, life is unfair, but it is less so because you have selected an elective course. In our school, you take AP Biology after regular biology and chemistry.

Yeah, it is a joke. I am taking Comp Sci at the local college because they don't offer AP Comp Sci at my school this year. It only counts as a 4.0 on my GPA, and it is quite hard, probably harder than any other class that the school offers. It is a joke, but I am not here for the grade, I am here for the knowledge.

|crap|
ten char.

yea, same thing for me in french ILoveSoftball44, i was supposed to be in honors french, but schedualing got messed up and im in regular french, but both honors and non honors get the same tests and go at the same speed only we're not weighted =(.

I don't think we have regular courses at my school.

Well, we might have some, but very few people seem to take them.

It's massive credit inflation.

The honors classes at my school are EXACTLY the same as regular. In fact, most classes are mixed with honors and regular students, so teachers can't do much to change the way they teach for honors.
