Here are my schools in no order of priority:

1) NYU CAS ED
2) Colgate
3) Claremont McKenna
4) Villanova
5) RPI
6) Union
7) George Washington
8) College of Saint Rose
9) SUNY Geneseo
10) SUNY Albany

A few observations:

The College Of Saint Rose? why are you applying there, the only time I’ve heard of the school is through all the junk emails they sent me. In my opinion, there are better options for a safety school.

SUNY-Albany is good but many students hate the school so reconsider that choice

what happened to applying to Rice early decision. Rice is way better academically and socially than NYU. Houston is the fastest growing city in the US right now.

Other than that, you seem to have made some good choices other than the schools I’m questioning.

one more thing, out of your colleges, I think Claremont McKenna may be the best school so if you don’t want to apply to Rice, I think you should apply to Claremont McKenna ED.

Well, I am not applying Early to Rice for many reasons. First of all, I have no family within 300 miles of Rice, and family is very important to me. I switched CMC and Rice because I thought they were similar academically ( giving me a boost because of geographical location) and I have 3 times more family living in Cali than I do in Houston. I think Rice is a high match/Reach for me Regular Decision, but I am still applying there RD.

Alright I understand 100%

I think that Claremont McKenna College is the best school for you, better than NYU that you should apply ED there. It’s economics program is amazing. It’s right next to LA, the school was ranked 2nd for job/career placement, students are happy, politically active, professors are ranked amongst the best in the country, the administration is available to the students, the dorms are amazing, financial aid is very good, I really don’t see any negatives about CMC. Also, it is located next to 4 highly ranked liberal arts colleges: Pomona, Pitzer, Harvey Mudd and Scripps.

I agree lol

But life is full of advantages, and the fact my 10+ cousins work in investment banks at UBS and Citi, is all of the job placement advantages that I need in NYC. I am actually still pretty fond about Rice, but I am still a Junior, almost a Senior, so I have time to decide.

Well what makes you think that because your 10 cousins work in investment banks at UBS and Citi in NYC that a college in New York would be the best place to get a good job? Is there some way that your cousins can get you a place at those banks just because you live in NYC? What if your cousins worked in LA, would that be a good reason to go to LA for school?

Somehow I’m not getting the logic, I would like to hear some other opinions from other CC’ers but I think that you’d get the better education at Claremont McKenna.

I think the issue might be that going to NYU makes it easier to get paid or unpaid internships on the Street during the school year.

Well, Pierre, as I said previously, my family is very close to me. If I don’t get into Goldman Sachs (Harvard of investment banking), then I essentially have UBS and Citigroup to go to. Basically, I have “Super-legacy” at UBS and Citi, and as good of connections as someone can get. My cousin got my brother into Merrill, and I got an internship at Citi over a summer, and I was basically a Sophomore in hs. How often do you see a sophomore in high school at a world renown bank like UBS or Citi??? I didn’t see any unless I looked in a mirror.

Now, after this hiatus, can someone please tell me how my list of colleges are looking as far as Matches?

Overall, I would say you have a well-rounded list of colleges. However, this is just my opinion, if you apply to Villanova, I suggest you apply to the business school and double-major in finance/economics if you really want to do economics. From what I have read on collegeconfidential, most economics majors that do well are those who go to top-tier schools (Harvard, Princeton, etc). Therefore, as an economics major from Villanova, you might have some trouble getting a job since you will compete against all the big-name schools. But the business school at Villanova has a great reputation (I have read on collegeconfidential about people turning down top business schools such as Stern and Georgetown for Villanova), so if you go to Villanova you might want to consider having a business major such as finance in addition to economics.

seriously the College of Saint Rose is not a match school…it shouldn’t be on your list if you are thinking about economics or math or anything

Yea cross out college of St. Rose- I dont even think they exist, only on unwanted spam emails.

anybody else seem to think that Claremont McKenna may be a better fit for the OP than NYU?

Deffinitely consider Nova business school.

NYU does not meet full need. On average 70% of need is met. On the other hand CMC meets full need for admitted students.

FYI: Goldman Sachs is no longer an investment bank.

Don’t apply ED. You’re too undecisive and you don’t want to regret it between December and April.

CMC is a reach for everyone, especially with a 3.4 GPA.

I agree with Keilexandra, CMC and perhaps even Colgate are reaches. The other schools are matches.

Most of those schools are reaches, good test scores do not make up for subpar GPA. I would even go as far as saying extremly unlikely at NYU or Colgate, ED or not.

Oldfort- How is a 3.4 subpar for NYU, when their average GPA is a 3.6?? My SAT’s should balance it out. Also my friends from last year who got into NYU had similar or lower GPA’s than mine. I knew a complete idiot who’s courseload wasn’t difficult at all who got into NYU one year ago, he had a 3.2 UW lol
