I finally want to be in college, but now I have to fix my past mistakes...

Hi there, I’m new here! I hope this is the right place to post this.
In my last year of high school (where I was dual enrolled) and my first year of college I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, so I got depressed and lazy, and as a result I did pretty poorly (my college GPA was a 2.6, high school was a 3.8 though). Now that I know what I want to do (vet school or engineering), I realize how competitive I need to be and how poor my grades are. I am back on track, and I believe that I learned from my mistakes, but I’m pretty positive I can’t get into vet school with grades like these. I feel so hopeless! Is there any chance I can turn my grades around? If I showed positve improvement and worked twice as hard as other students, could I have a chance?
As for my grades, I am lucky enough that the university I’m transferring to allows me to take a class over and have the lower grade not count towards my GPA, so anything with a D or lower I can retake (and that’s only 2 classes), and I plan to, if that makes any difference. Thanks for reading! I can post my grades if you think that would help.

Of course there is! Retaking will be good, but remember, not everyone finishes in four years-many people don’t-so you have that option if you want (finances permitting of course).
