After I got accetped to college with ED2 back in February, I sent withdrawl emails to all the colleges I applied. I got replies from all the colleges except Boston College. But I did not notice at the time because there were so many replies. I got an email from Boston College today saying that they finished the review and they will be releasing decisions for next few weeks. I emailed them few hours ago that I want to withdraw my application.
What happens if its too late? What happens if I get accepted to Boston College? WIll my ED 2 College know? If they do, will they rescind my acceptance even though it was a mistake?
And just out of curiosity, is it possible to reject ED2 acceptance and go to RD college?
It’s really not a big deal. Nothing bad is going to happen - you sent BC an email, it’s off your hands. I’d call admissions if they don’t respond to make sure they rescind it, but it’s really nothing to worry over. Congrats on your ED 2 school by the way
@jamesjunkers Thanks! I actually sent them email about withdrawl twice in February but I never got replies.
It’s not your fault then, you clearly made an attempt. Calling admissions would be you doing them a favor - I would recommend doing it just because you got into your dream school, let someone else get into theirs, but it is in no way mandatory.
Pretty sure this isn’t okay - but I know you’re just asking about this as a hypothetical situation.
- You commit to the school as part of the binding contract of ED - you can't just turn them down (unless there's a financial reason, and this is rare)
- This would show that you didn't actually withdraw all of your apps - which the binding contract requires you to do.
Anyways, I agree with jamesjunker on everything he has said. It’s out of your hands now, as you’ve done everything you could and clearly made an attempt to withdraw the app.
@noemii Ok. I will call Boston College tomorrow just in case. What happens if I actually get accepted to Boston College? Can I just ignore it and go to ED2 college?
@dk8511, I had a similar experience. I promptly notified all my other schools that I’d been accepted ED2 and asked that my app. be withdrawn. Some confirmed quickly and a few took more time, and I did not notice that one had not replied… until I got an email from that school asking me for some additional information. I replied directly to that email to withdraw my application and this time I got a confirmation. Your emailing them twice is sufficient, they really should have confirmed – perhaps double check the address you sent it to nonetheless.
edited to add: just noticed…Brandeis, wow, same!
@dk8511 Yes, ignore it. If there is actually an issue with your ED2 college (i.e. they find out and contact you about it), you can show them the emails as proof that you did attempt to withdraw the app.
Actually, I noticed that you wrote “I emailed them few hours ago that I want to withdraw my application” - so it’s understandable that they haven’t gotten back to you yet. It may take a few days for them to respond, at worst - a month or more (I had a college that didn’t respond to my email until 5 weeks later ). But don’t worry, this shouldn’t be a huge issue. Calling them would definitely get this cleared up faster. Good luck!
If you have the email you sent withdrawing the application it would not be any issue but it would probably be best to email BC once again. If you do get accepted you to BC you would then have to decline.
@dk8511, why did you post that you were deciding between Brandeis, BC, and NYU almost 3 WEEKS AFTER you were accepted ED2 to Brandeis? I was also accepted ED2 to Brandeis and decisions came out on January 29th:

“Hi, I’m Asian who wants to go to medical school in United States. I currently hold green card and I will have US citizenship soon. I applied to Biology major for all three schools and I’m going to study premed.
All 3 schools are match to me academically(SAT,GPA,etc.).
If I get accepted to all 3, which school should I go to?
I think NYU is a great school and it has great popularity but I don’t think New York City is good place for study.(too much distractions)
I like Brandeis because I heard they have good premed program and high acceptance rate to medical schools but it has the lowest ranking of all.
How would you rank these schools by quality of education?”
ED2 is contractually binding and this post ^ suggests differently than what you are explaining in this thread about not yet notifying BC.
@sjillian15 Wow I didnt take you as so much as a stalker. I share this account with my twin brother so thats why.
@dk8511, Sharing accounts is not allowed and your “twin brother” seems exactly like you. Playing the ED2 and RD game is not a good one. @jamesjunkers, thoughts?
@sjillian15 well hes my “twin brother” so obviously we share pretty much same profile. Are do you want me to actually prove it to you that I sent withdrawl emails in February?
Also, I dont know whats your problem but this is none of your business? Why do you care I share account with my twin anyway?
@sjillian15 If you provide me your email address, I can send you screenshot of withdrawal emails with exact dates.
@dk8511
I don’t even understand the question. Of course you can just not go there. People get accepted to multiple colleges all the time, and they can’t attend more than one at a time. But you do have an obligation to your ED2 acceptance.
As moderator: BTW, the other member is correct. It is against the rules to share an account, your twin should have his own. It is very confusing to have two people on the same account, as you can now obviously see. And they are not stalking, it is common to look at previous posts. You should be a lot more polite, since you and your brother created this confusion.
@fallenchemist Well to me it looks like e-stalking and I dont like it. I have a right to feel uncomfortable.
And polite? My tone wouldnt have been like this if that user didn’t use accusing tone.
Dont bother giving me warning because if this is what collegeconfidential is like, I’m not coming back anyway.
@dk8511 I know I’m not involved in this but I was searching for Brandeis with false hope the results actually will come today. You are being completely ridiculous. You are supposed to be able to view people’s previous threads. It’s a click of a button and can be helpful for chancing people and getting their stats for comparison. Everything on here is completely public and threads are viewed by thousands
This.
Anyways, if you have a problem with it, then DON’T create chance threads.
