I was accepted ED2 to a university earlier this year, so I notified my counselor, who told me that she would not send my midyear transcript to my remaining RD colleges. She also informed me that because the absence of my midyear grades would keep my apps incomplete, the RD colleges would probably withdraw me automatically and not send me a decision.
I should have looked into it myself rather than trust her blindly (I know I am a dumbass dumbass dumbass), because I have recently gotten two acceptance letters already (UNC-CH and NYU) and April 1st is coming up; now I know that 1) I definitely was not withdrawn properly 2) I'm probably going to be receiving deny/rejection letters, as the remaining colleges are almost all top 15s and surely require midyear grades. I don't mind the rejections as much as the thought of what my ED2 college can do if they find out. What should I do? It's already too late to email my other colleges for a second withdrawal request, and it's not like I'm really going to be considering any other choices because I've already signed the ED agreement. Can my ED2 college rescind my acceptance if they find out about this mess, or should I just let it go and just decline the acceptances? I am considering emailing them and explaining the situation, but if I can get by with the least amount of trouble on both ends, then that would be great.

Wow this is a pretty longass post, sorry! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

First, call your ED II school to explain the error and to confirm you still want to go there. (They should understand.) Then, call the other schools AND send an email to cancel your application. It’s actually more important to rescind your application from all the other schools. It might actually mean someone will move from the WL to an acceptance.

Thank you both-I did send my RD colleges an email tonight, and plan to call them when they are open (have to check their ofice hours). I also plan to email and call my EDII college, but later on when everything with these colleges are sorted out.

Whew, I hope everything works out. Good luck to everyone on their decisions! I’m sure you all were much smarter than me and didn’t get yourselves into a situation like this xD

Don’t assume that these schools weren’t contacted. This happens even when people do the right thing. Sometimes when apps are asked to be withdrawn, schools are so busy that they never actually do it…so, some acceptances come in anyway.

Just email all your schools and tell them that you were accepted EDII.

Don’t worry about your EDII school, I doubt they’ll know or do anything. This happens. If they ask, tell them the truth…that you tried to withdraw…
