My last year Calc BC teacher is notorious for making very difficult tests, and last year I received a B- for my final grade in that class. However, on the AP Exam, I received a 4 (AB subscore 5) after working especially hard the last few weeks and spending a lot of time after school with her to gain additional understanding of the material. My teacher has noticed and remarked on how hard I worked last year, and I’m considering having her write one of my teacher recommendations. What are my chances for the competitive schools, such as Princeton University, which is my dream school?
(This is my very first post here by the way, so if there’s anything else I can add or do better, please let me know!)
Nobody can tell you that based on one grade and an AP score.
Overall GPA? Class rank? SAT/ACT? Extracurriculars? Achievements?
It would probably also be helpful if you mentioned some other schools, as the most anyone can say about Princeton is “Hardly anyone gets in, good luck.”
Extracurriculars:
President of School Model UN
Member of Science Olympiad
Vice President of School NHS
Other Classes:
AP World History (A-, 4)
AP Computer Science (B+, 3)
AP US History (A, 4)
AP Psychology (B+, 5)
AP Chemistry (A, 3)
AP English Language (B, 4)
My school unfortunately doesn’t provide class rank.
What’s your class rank? From what you posted, you don’t have grades and RCs that make you really stand out in the application pool to Princeton. I wouldn’t apply early there if I were you but that’s just my opinion. Good luck with your college applications!
You should have an idea where you stand in the class. If not, look at your school profile. Sometime schools give ranges of gpa’s. You realistically need to be in the top 5% of you class to even be considered at Princeton especially if your ECs are not outstanding.
