I got deferred but i sent them an update letter. Chances?

I got deferred from Columbia so I sent them an update letter few days ago.

So I wrote them a letter explaining my continued interest and attached extra materials like

Letter stating that I became a Gates Millennium Scholar Finalist

Certificate stating that I’m a National Merit Finalist

Additional essay

Additional recommendation letter

Resume

I have 2310 SAT, 4.5 GPA (prolly top 5%. My school doesnt rank)
Good ECs… prolly good letters of recs and essays too
Asian female living in California.
Do you think my letter and extra materials might help me get in?
Is there anyone else who got deferred and sent in an update letter?

I’m a white female living in RI with a 2220 on the SAT and a 4.29/4.0 GPA. I recently received a likely letter from Columbia suggesting admission. My point is that college admissions are almost random and depend quite a bit more on the ‘x’ factors than awards and recognition. We all have great successes of which we can boast, but perhaps writing them a letter about your passions and dreams would be more powerful than a list of merit awards and a collection of essays. The latter can appear redundant.

wow. a likely letter? congrats!!!

can you tell me little more about yourself? like extra curriculars and awards and stuff?
I really hope i can get in too…

I posted most of my stats on CC, you can access them: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profiles/member_stat_view.html?user_id=201569</a>. As for ECs and such, I worked at MIT as a researcher for three years of high school during which I conducted astrophysics and astronomy research. I applied to Columbia College as a physics major, but I plan on studying biophysics/biochemistry and eventually go onto medical school.

Quarkify, living in Rhode Island probably helped you.

Quarkify, your stats look really good!
But neethus, how can living in Rhode Island help?

RI is a relatively poor, not to mention small, state with few strong schools, but I really don’t think that it helped all that much. About ten kids from my school, which is one of the top in the state, applied this year. Only two of us received likely letters.

When did you get a rejection letter?
