I got deferred from William and Mary, what are my chances for other schools?

Hi!

I posted about a month ago about applying to William and Mary. My decision came in and I got deferred :( I'm not quite sure what the reason was for them to do this, as I know a lot of people with lower stats than me who got accepted. Anyways, I was wondering what my chances for admission to UVA, Virginia Tech, and VCU would be, since W&M deferred me. I will repost my resume below:

School: in Northern Virginia
GPA: 3.956 (W)
Course rigor: I have a total of 10 AP classes and 8 Honors classes from throughout high school!
Test scores: SAT (1600)- 1240

Extra curricular activities:
-142 hours of volunteer work
-28 hours of leadership experience
-In band for 4 years (marching band for 1 year, got a varsity letter!)
-National Honor Society (2 years), National English Honor Society (1 year), Tri-M Music Honor Society (3 years)

Transcript:
-My GPA is not as high as I wanted it to be because in my sophomore year, I was hospitalized during finals week and was unable to take my finals. As a result, I have one C on my report card for that year.

-I plan to major in Biology/Health Science!

It would be really nice to get an idea for what my chances of admission are for these other VA schools! I’m a little worried due to my deferral from W&M so I would really appreciate any sort of feedback (including suggestions for any other schools I should look at?)

I’m not sure, honestly (because I’m applying to college right now). But I would say your chances are highest for Virginia Tech and VCU. I don’t think there’s any harm applying to UVA. UVA is generally more selective than W&M, though.

I was deferred from W&M ED as well. Definitely a tough situation, as it is hard to commit to other schools knowing there is still even a little hope at W&M. My teacher who wrote my rec. spoke to admissions and they said all hope might not be lost for deferred students- they truly ran out of time this year during ED review to throughly review all applications. Hang in there. I don’t think you will have any issues getting into VCU or VT. UVA is tough, but not as tough as W&M, so give it a shot as well!

Make sure your essay is GOLD!!! Please don’t over look the essay really stats are numbers but your essay has your voice in it!!! I got accepted to W&M and I have a 3.5 gpa with an 1150 SAT score, please work on that Essay show it to MULTIPLE English teachers!!! Brother you can get into Harvard with those stats all that’s left it the ESSAY!!!
