I Got Deferred - What Should I Do?

hey, recently I received an email from Lafayette indicating that my application was deferred to regular. I am very interested in the college and it still my first choice. What should I do?
Here are few updates for me this year:
-My grades are much much better this year; until now, they are straight A’s, which is better than my grades in years 10, 11-- they were mix of A’s, B’s and few C’s
-I got two new recommendation letters, the first one is from my coach at the school, and the another one is from a professor in a university who helped me in a previous project; he is talking about my research skills and how he helped me; they both are very strong.
-I have new extracurricular activities, much better than the old ones.
-I received two awards, the first one is the first place in table tennis in my school and the second one is the best capstone project for this year in grade 12; I talked about this project in my PS but It wasn’t done yet; now it is done and got the first place. Also, I put some recommendations for people who will work on this project in the future, one of these recommendations was done by one of the lafayette students and I mentioned the student and mention the college name in the recommendations ( I didn’t submit this project in my ed1 application because it wasn’t done, so the college don’t know any of those things)
-The project got the first place in TIT competition, it is a small competition in my city

  • I will write an essay about why I chose lafayette.

Is there any chance of being accepted in RD ?

Update them.
But expand your search. Run the NPC’s and show results to your parents.
Apply to Trinity College, Union, and Clarkson, add your state flagships.

I don’t know which one I should I apply to, I have trinity college, union college and bucknell university. Which one do u recommend me to apply at ED 2? I need significant financial aid @MYOS1634 , what is NPC’s?

Net price calculator. There’s one on each website. You must run it from each college and bring the results to your parents.
As for the three above, pick for ED2 the one with the lowest net price on the NPC results.

Union is easier to get into than Lafayette and Bucknell. But if you get in to Union ED2 you must pull the other applications so make sure if you go ED2 that you are ready to attend! Bucknell is a little more difficult to get into. How about Muhlenberg? It is sort of similar and kids love it there too. Maybe another option so you have choices in April? Hobart?
Good luck! Sounds like you’re having a great school year!!

@naviance my ACT is 27, 4unweight GPA
are sure that union is considered to be easier? I want to major in engineering
So should I put union on ED2 and put bucknell and trinity of the regular?

many of my friends are applying to bucknell this year but no one is applying to union

NO, you should run the NPC before you choose any college ED2.
The difficulty with ED is that you can’t compare packages. Therefore, your only tool is the NPC, to be used before you apply, and to use as a way to gauge which university will be least outrageously expensive/most inexpensive.
You run the NPC on all three, bring the results to your parents, check that they can afford the “net price” from income and savings (not loans). Then if they can afford all three, you choose - but odds are, one will be cheaper, and that’s the one you should apply ED2.

@MYOS1634 you are right, but the 3 universities mention in their sites that they 100% of demonstrated financial need so I think that they are financially the same.

No, because each university defines “financial need” the way they want. Some may count 6% of student earnings and others 20%, some may cap equity liquidity at 1.2% and others at 4% while some may not cap it at all, some may consider assets up to 15% and others 6…
Just run the NPC on each: you’re likely to see different results.

what about my chances at lafayette ?

@MYOS1634 I ran the npc, I got the greatest financial aid from trinity then union then Bucknell
Should I chose Trinity as ed2 and union, Bucknell as regular admission?

Yes. And before you do that make sure your parents are OK with paying Trinity’s costs without loans.

As an international student needing significant aid, all of these schools are reaches since your ACT looks to be below the 25th percentile. Union is test optional I believe so that could be a good option for you to pursue. Good luck.

@happy1 many of my friends and other intls from different countries who have a higher ACT and SAT scores got rejected from Lafayette. The only one who got deferred was me. This means that I am still in the play; my chances aren’t high, but they exist. I think after modifying my application, I will have a good chance.
What about trinity college? It seems to be in the average of my ACT score. Should I choose Trinity or union, from your point of view?

And what about my chances of getting in to lafayette in RD after being waitlisted @happy1

If you apply ED2, you have to forget about Lafayette.

@MYOS1634

I have to apply ED2 because my chances are very low on regular admission. However, I am not guaranteed that I will get accepted in ED2. It may happen that I get rejected from Trinity and get accepted to Lafayette. Even I got accepted to both, Trinity is not a bad college; It is the oldest college in Connecticut after Yale. What is your opinion?

You have to be comfortable with the college you apply to Ed2. If you get into Trinity, the ED agreement requires you to attend if it’s financially possible. Obviously you must apply to a variety of colleges because applying ED is a guarantee of nothing. but if you get into Trinity and it’s affordable, you must go and forget Lafayette.
Run the NPC on all colleges you apply to BTW.
Do you already have acceptances from rolling admissions, state universities, EA Universities?

yea, 2 acceptances. But both of them are expensive and aren’t affordable. I am not surprised. I knew that both of them will be expensive, but I applied to them as safety schools and on the off chance that I can get a sponsor from my country to pay for me. @MYOS1634

OK then you need to find actual safeties, IE., good fits that are affordable.
Are you a US resident/citizen? Or international?

I am international @MYOS1634
