i wonder what happened to me. Could i have been possibly rejected or deferred?
It's like over a month and no news.

Hauck, what were your stats that got you deferred? I am getting very concerned for my son. His application was complete on 9/20. He is OOS with a 33 ACT, 3.5 Michigan GPA (AP's, varsity sport, etc). I'm wondering if he's going to get one of those deferred letters too. Alexandre, if you have any opinion on this, I'd love to hear it as well!

If you are having problems receiving your UM ID number, just call the admissions office and ask for one, tell them you applied a while ago and still did not receive one. I called today and they gave me one on the spot, its great!

anyone knows when i can expect an answer? (quite desperate since if [big IF] i get an acceptance i can thrash all the other apps)

HauckT, do not worry, just keep your senior grades up and you will be fine. If I recall, you have a very high ACT score, but a low GPA. However, your low GPA was a result of poor Sophomore grades but good Junior grades right? If your Senior grades are aslo good, I think you are in.

RT2BT, your son's stats look good. Michigan is a match for him. It can take as little as 4 weeks or up to 12 weeks for a student to get a response once the application is complete, so you may hear back from Michigan as early as today or as late as Christmas.

Banedon, when was your application completed? Like I said, it can take anywhere from 4 - 12 weeks.

27/10 i submitted. but i don't know when my SAT scores is going to reach them. :(

In that case, don't expect an answer until Christmas time. Remember, Thanks Giving and Christmas break really slow things down. We are talking about a 2-3 week delay right there.

Alexandre, I submitted all of my parts on 9/25ish, and my test scores came a little later. But my transcript and school report did not arrive until 10/25. When might I hear?
Thank you.

Nothing has happened to you. They don't have that many international applications yet, and less than 50 are even completed. They've admitted only a handful of international students so far. I don't believe they have rejected any.

One of my best friends just got admitted. She had a 3.6 weighted GPA (about a 3.4 UM GPA) and a 28 on the ACT.

I have a 3.6 weighted GPA (about a 3.3 UM GPA) and a 29 on the ACT.

If I get deferred/rejected, do I have a beef about affirmative action? She is an african american female, who actually is much more wealthy than I am.

It is unfair, but just think about all the oppresion they have received from the government in the past.

I was talking to my native american friend about Affirmative Action and I told her it didnt seem fair, but then she reminded me of all that oppression in the past...and she was like, AA doesnt even make up for it. she knows a lot of people who have died and stuff...her relatives and ancestors, its really sad...

Oppression? I'm sorry, a wealthy spoiled African girl who shops at the mall with her parents credit cards who each makes over 100K per year isn't facing oppression.

Affirmative action should definitely be based on economic status rather than race. Anyone given an upper-middle class upbringing (myself included) has no excuse for not achieving at the same level as other students.

XO AKHILA OX, I hope that AA is not an attempt at making reparations, but rather, a measure to ensure that we all play on a leved playing field.

A2Wolves, a 3.4 GPA with a 28 ACT score made Michigan a reach for her, but not out of reach, even if she were a white applicants. This girl probably benefited a little from her status as an African American female, but she certainly has the credentials to get into Michigan, as do you.

i'm beginning to think that perhaps i should post my stats so i can don't worry...:(

Michigan doesn't practice the kind of affirmative action you're talking about--where it's all about making up for unequal opportunity. Their admissions practices are really driven by the idea of overall diversity, all kinds of diversity. So yes, socioeconomic status is important, and race, too. But so is where you are from, your background, your interests, and so on.

That's why a male student applying to nursing might get a boost--not because he's disadvantaged, but because he brings an important measure of diversity to the nursing school.

My entire application was in on 9/26, but they didn't receive my recommendation from my hs teacher until 10/19.... any ideas on when i should find out from them?

Your application can only be completed when your teacher recommendations arrive. So it was completed on the 19th of October, not on the 26th of September. The usuall 4-12 weeks apply. You will here back anytime betweeb early December and late January.
