Today I got into Steinhardt at NYU, ED 2 and I could not be happier or more excited! NYU has always been a dream of mine since middle school. I know a 3.2 GPA isn’t great which is why I was so surprised to get into NYU! I decided to write this to inspire hope because on all the college websites I visited, they would tell me that I was bound to go to a school like Drexel University (which is a good school, but just not the one for me).
Here’s some background information about myself:
I’m a Chinese-American girl who lives in a wealthy part of Silicon Valley. I suck at math and science but has done sports all four years of high school. So, I’m pretty basic.
Anyways, I’ve always been pretty bad at school. In middle school, I failed sixth grade science but my grades have gotten a lot better since then. My freshman year GPA was a 2.9 unweighted (my school doesn’t weigh) but sophomore year was a 3.6 and first semester junior year was also a 3.6. However, I got a concussion second semester and ended up with a 3.1. I go to a very college oriented school where going to Ivy’s was pretty much mainstream. I felt horrible about myself and sometimes I still do because I can’t be one of those people who could get good grades easily.
My sophomore year I became an intern at Stanford University, working on a twin study regarding autism. The summer of my junior year to senior year I got an internship at UCSF, studying autism once again. I got my professor at UCSF to write me a recommendation letter, which probably helped with admission a lot. I wasted no time writing my college essays and they turned out amazingly. I had a college counselor edit my essays and that helped me out a bunch!
I can’t wait to be a future Bobcat!
