I got my admission letter today!!!!!

Received my letter of acceptance on Thursday! I'm from Southern NY, right above NYC.

SAT I: 1370 (710V, 660M)

SAT II: 790 Japanese w/Listening, 690 World His., 660 Writing, 650 IC.

94 unweighted average (my school doesn't weight....but I've taken 5 APs)

Returned in February from a year abroad in Japan.

I was accepted by Vanderbilt and NYU, rejected by Columbia and Harvard (why did I ever think it possible to get in there with my SAT scores?), and waitlisted by Cornell.

I'm trying to decide now between NYU and Vanderbilt. They're polar opposites. It's almost like a Civil War reenactment (North vs South.....get it?).

Hi Nat! I'm from Pennsylvania and just got home from a visit to Vandy. It is a wonderful place (and that is an understatement). The weather was already spring there (as opposed to the 3 inches of snow waiting for me when I returned home last night). People as a whole are very friendly and helpful at Vanderbilt and in Nashville in general. There are some exceptions of course, but if you decide to come to Vandy you will no doubt find lots of great friends.

I know how you Rice people feel. I was accepted RD at Vandy, yet deferred ID and waitlisted RD at Rice.

I figure, if they've decided twice that they don't want me, then I'm not going to continue to bother them with my application. I'm not going on the waitlist, however, I don't think Vandy will work without a merit scholarship because it is so expensive. Duke seems to be the place for me.

I had the same experience with Rice as you did yamalbert. deferred, then waitlisted. There's nothing to lose if I choose to accept to be placed on a waiting list, though. So why is it that people don't do it?

zepplin,- ecnerwalc here, I'm doing bioengineering.

I might be going into Computer engineering or civil engineering, but i would also like to major or minor in eco or government from the college of A&S...I also got substantial aid...fafsa said i deserved about 10K from vanderbilt if their tuition really was 49K...but i got 26K...i think vanderbilt got a large donation recently and thats why theyre giving massive aid to their admitts and theyre acceptance rate dropped (i think to around 30% this year althought i could be lying and not know it)

Hey HayleyRenee, it's great to hear about the friendly people down there (and the great weather!). All of this positive feedback is really exciting to me and I think I'm going to have to fly down to visit next weekend!

Nat-you will love Vanderbilt. The campus is gorgeous and everyone is very nice.

For those who got rejected from Rice, don't feel too bad if you are Asian. It is well known in the Houston community that if you are Asian your chances of getting into Rice is as bad as getting in Harvard. One good family friend of mine got rejected from Rice and got into Brown. I go to Rice now, and the Asians who are undergrads are either from extremely wealthy families that donate money or have SAT scores 1500 or above. What's sad is the hispanics only need about 1100 to get in (two of my latina friends got in with very low 1200s). They want to cap Asians at around 12% so it sucks for Asians because they are forced to compete against each other.

vig, welcome to the world of college admissions. now you know how i feel as a white male. in the long run, it's their loss.

Yamalbert- You should consider Vanderbilt. It is much better than Rice in every way (ok, except it is ranked 1 spot lower on US News). Duke is obviously a great school. No loss there.
