i got owned. pwnd even.

hey. so my college counselor told me to take off some schools from my list, and look at some new ones. still searching for another safety, because i only have 2, so any suggestions WILL be so appreciated. I'll even chance you if you want.

here are the stats:

ACT: 31

AP's: Span- 5 Eng- 4 US History- 3

GPA:3.27@ oxford of emory, emory, and southern cal, wisconsin
3.47 (recalc.) at georgia tech
3.38 for wake forest, illinois, smu, arizona, clemson (safety??), purdue (safety??), texas a & m (safety??), and pitt (safety??) of those last 4, i will only choose one as a safety, so if you could tell me which is a safety and which is not, thank you so much. any recs for any are also appreciated
3.8 UC GPA
ECs listed on app: football, track, was in 2 clubs, and work

Job/Work Experience: did finances that were really receipts at a family friend's company and also had a job there too

Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be very good- on two hardships that have come down on me the last 2 years, and my dealing w/ them.

School Type: Private, does not rank

Ethnicity: Hispanic

Gender:M

Also: Took 3 summer courses at a local comm. college

here are the schools:

Oxford of Emory
Emory (visiting)
Southern Cal
Georgia Tech (visiting)
Wake Forest (i am applying ED Here, she said it won't help...so yeah)
Wisconsin
Illinois
SMU
Arizona
UC Davis
CAL
UCSD

thanks so much. college football is back.

UCSD: Slight reach/reach
UCD: Slight reach
Emory: Reach

Sorry, I don't know too much about the other schools!

Oxford of Emory - Reach
Emory - Reach
Southern Cal - Low Reach
Georgia Tech - High Match
Wake Forest - Low Reach
Wisconsin - Match
Illinois - Match
SMU - Match
Arizona - Match
UC Davis - Match
CAL - Match
UCSD - Match

Honestly, I don't know much about the coleges besides Emroy, Oxford, USC Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.

Your gpa is a tad low, but you may explain it through the hardships you faced. If you could, retake the ACT for 32+ and make sure you list any EC's. They're necessary for the better schools (emroy). Good luck!

i should prob. mention that i have quite a bit of comm. service too, to go along with the e.c's.

i think that right now i'm thinking that u of a is my safety along with smu, and i'm tryign to find the other one. applying ED to wake forest, hope that helps a wee bit.. but i doubt it

btw i never knew this, but what's a low reach and a high match...if that's dumb then sorry

Low = slight
High = big

san diego- high match
berkeley-reach
davis-match
usc-reach

just for general knowledge then, so how good is a high match in relation to a match? (big match.....eh)

i take it a low reach then would be a slight reach from what was said then

Here's the Official CC Chances Terminology Meter:

High Reach (Lowest Chance - Nearing 0%)
Reach
Low Reach
High Match
Match (Medium Chance - Usually 50%)
Low Match
High Safety
Safety
Low Safety (Highest Chance - Nearing 100%)

Most people dont use high/low safety though, just safety, because almost at no college (except UT and such) can you be 100% sure.

oh. awesome. thank you

Oxford of Emory - High Reach
Emory - High Reach
Southern Cal - High Reach
Georgia Tech - low reach
Wake Forest - reach
Wisconsin - reach
Illinois - low reach
SMU - Match
Arizona - high match
UC Davis - high match
CAL - Enormous Reach (dude, there's almost zero chance)
UCSD - Reach

methinks this
Oxford--reach
Emory-- high reach
USC-- high reach
Georgia Tech--low reach
Wake Forest--tiny reach maybe high match
Wisconsin--reach
Illinoin--low reach
SMU--match
Arizona--high match
UC David--high match
Cal--high high reach
UCSD--moderate reach

i'd say if you want a safety choose purdue

i'd say that if you want a safety choose purdue

If I were you, I would (I am assuming you live in CA with all the california schools), try UCSC and UCSB. You have a solid chance at sc, and a little reach at ucsb, your act helps alot.

thanks, i just finished my Purdue app. To move aside from this chance thread real quick, which of the above schools, excluding the UC's, don't require teacher/counselor reccommendations? it'd be a huge help, b/c i get my rec package in 3 days.

btw can marquette be a safety for me?
