I gotta apply somewhere

Hi everyone,

I'm on a gap year looking to apply to schools to begin college next fall. I've looked at Wesleyan and Skidmore. I liked both, Skidmore was prettier and seemed to have a little more life. But I really don't want to go to Skidmore because my ex goes there and we have a complicated, stressful relationship that would effect me there.

I'm looking for a strong liberal arts school with an artsy vibe and interesting students. Where flyers are posted everywhere for student bands and comedy troops.

I have a 4.1 GPA and pretty high SAT scores (800 critical reading, 770 writing, 640 math).

I'm going to visit Oberlin soon.

Any opinions on schools to consider? I'm a little worried about snobby hipster-y vibes that some more creative liberal arts schools are said to have.

Although it does have a hipster vibe I strongly suggest you look into Lewis & Clark College. It’s right outside of Portland which is almost an indie band Mecca. The one guy I know that goes there is double majoring in theater and psychology and loves the school.

Some other great liberal arts schools to look at closely:
Bard College → Similar to Oberlin, very progressive with strong academics.

Sarah Lawrence College → Also progressive, outside of NYC (great location). Strong emphasis on writing, and definitely has an “artsy” bend.

Grinnell College → Strong academics, intellectual student body, located in a small town.

Kenyon College → Great liberal arts college in Ohio with strong academics and artistic students.

Hampshire is a good possibility.

I don’t know if I’d recommend Kenyon for artsy students. I think Denison would be a better match. Lewis and Clark is a great suggestion.
