I had a 3.25 unweighted gpa in freshman year- What's the highest I can raise it to?

Hi! I’m currently a sophmore in highschool, and I’m really worried about grades. I have a lot of expectations to live up to and I don’t want to disappoint. I would really like to get into a respectable (hopefully IV league) college and I’m really worried honestly. I had a hard time freshman year due to many events happening outside of school and I ended up with a 3.25. I want to know what I’d have to do to at least get my GPA up to a 3.75+
Currently I’m doing very well in sophmore year- I’m in all honours and taking an AP level history course, and I’m gaining many extracurricular hours this semester thanks to the GSA, Drama club, and NHAS (national highschool art society)
Is there any tips or tricks for what to do to raise my gpa? Any reccomendations on what to do for extracurriculars? Thanks so much!!

Don’t worry about what is past. Concentrate on doing well this semester. Getting good grades is the only way to raise your GPA. All colleges want to see upward trending grades. It sounds like you may have had to overcome some outside disturbances that may make for a college essay in a couple of years. Finally, I remembered hearing about some colleges that don’t even count freshman year grades when they rework your GPA for admission purposes. Not sure whether this info is still fresh, but here is a link to a CC thread that discussed this a couple of years ago.

Still, just work hard on your classes, get to know your teachers, and possibly start prepping for standardized testing this summer (ACT or SAT, which ever you think you do best in). If you work hard and smart and do your best, you won’t disappoint anyone and the rest will fall into place.

Colleges want to see you can do college level work. So keep working hard and do well in harder courses.
You will get into a college and probably a good one. People with 4.0’s don’t get into Ivy League colleges so don’t worry about that right now.
