I Hate Affirmative Action!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^You missed my last post. Try catching up, we're not in 1990 anymore.

Asian Americans used to score 200 points higher than the average white at Harvard. Now it is down to about 80-100. For UC's it is around 50 points.

URM affirmative action is something everyone should support. At the UC's after affirmative action was lifted, black enrollment went down, mexicans went down, native americans went down, asians stayed the same or went down (even though Asians still averaged 50 points higher than whites on SAT), and only whites went up.

Everyone can clearly see that getting rid of affirmative action "purely on the basis of blind admissions" was a lie ( then how come Asian students are accepted at higher averages?). It was just a way to benefit whites, and no one else.

Bring URM Affirmative Action back. NOW

personally i think that affirmative action should be mainly based on socioeconomic status, because doing it by skin color just brings in the whole racism debate.

people who have had to struggle due to poverty deserve a leg up because they had to work so hard for what they attained, no matter what color their skin is. because basic statistics show that minorities tend to make up a larger percentage of impovershed citizens, the issue of diversity would pretty much solve itself in this situation.

although clearly african americans have suffered a lot as a race, and still face racism today (as displayed by xokandykyssesox right on this very thread), they should not have to feel like they got a benefit just because of their skin color. poverty has a more concrete connection to the amount of struggle one had to go through for an education.

another reason for AA would be that the person is a first generation immigrant, which would mean they had to conquer a language or culture barrier.

people who just happen to have asian ancestry should definitely not get any type of affirmative action any more than someone who happens to have an irish background..or italian... french... that being said i also dont think that asians should be judged more harshly than white people, but i havent really seen any evidence of this. people get rejected all the time from ivy leagues...they just need to realize that theres more important things in life.

"URM affirmative action is something everyone should support. At the UC's after affirmative action was lifted, black enrollment went down, mexicans went down, native americans went down, asians stayed the same or went down (even though Asians still averaged 50 points higher than whites on SAT), and only whites went up."

When a program that artificially inflated URM acceptances was ended, URM acceptances went down... I'm shocked.

The issue needs to be addressed at the elementary, middle and high school level.

West Sidee,
Can you see that giving an advantage to ANY race is a form of RACISM?
And will not change real problems that most of the blacks experiense daily?

"well since the person's asian they will work hard." that's not really my point is it...

an asian (and there are tons of them, in, lets say nyc or chicago or toronto or whatever, im being generalized) with 1200 dont deserve to go to harvard either... there are asian gangs just as well, and asians that deal drugs, asians that dont study...

im basing my statement about doing well in college on their aptitude and atittude for college, which is at least 60-70% based on grades.

Flavius, you're from Boston, what can I say. The most racist city in America.

And this issue will never ever be addressed, lets face it. It will never be fixed. NEVER.

I just showed you guys that College Board will always throw out questions that Blacks do better than whites in. With odds like that, I'd be discouraged to study too.

"Flavius, you're from Boston, what can I say. The most racist city in America."

I come from a city that has a historic reputation for being racist (mainly between the Irish and the Italians, of which I am a mix and thus on neither side).

You on the other hand are racist.

I'm more comfortable with my situation, thanks though.

Already you guys learn at a young age, " Learn to change the rules of the game if you can't win".

If you just learned to WORK HARD and STUDY instead of changing the rules of the game when it doesn't fit you, then maybe the world would be a better place and people can finally feel free to study and pursue their dreams in equality.

Until then URM Affirmative Action is needed.

since when is boston the most racist city in america... thats not true at all

West Sidee, please refrain from overt attacks on individuals based on their color. While you might not intend to come off as racist, your comments, in my opinion, will rightfully be perceived as such.

Oh and xokandykyssesox, what we dont appreciate is your insinuation that all African Americans do is play basketball. Lets face it you said it, and I'm pretty sure I did not misinterpret the comment. And seeing as you fail to address......

^ If its racist to say that College Board is wrong in throwing out questions that Blacks do better than whites in, then I am guilty as charged for speaking the truth.

Has Boston shed its racist reputation? :
Panel tackles racism and segregation in Boston
By Beth Potier
Gazette Staff

It's been almost 30 years since buses of black students were pelted with rocks and tomatoes in South Boston. More than a decade has lapsed since Charles Stuart shot his wife in Mission Hill and sparked a veritable witch hunt for a black killer who never existed.

Is Boston, America's third-whitest major metropolitan area, as racist as it once was? Can a city that embraces its history firmly and fondly shed its reputation? Is this city of neighborhoods in fact a city of segregated ethnic enclaves?

Nice edit West Side, unfortunately I caught it beforehand. For all interested, his original post was:

"If you whites just learned to WORK HARD and STUDY instead of changing the rules of the game when it doesn't fit you, then maybe the world would be a better place and people can finally feel free to study and pursue their dreams in equality.

Until then URM Affirmative Action is needed."

Note the "you whites"

How is that racist? People say you asians, mexicans, blacks all the time. Get off your highhorse, you are from Boston. That says it all. West Coast Rules.

Sigh let us just have a civilized debate without having to get personal. It is not necessary at all. It will only stem the somewhat intelligent discussion that is occuring.

So what did we learn today?

Boston is a racist city.

URM Affirmative Action is good.

College Board throws out questions Blacks do better than whites in.

Yay!

could someone just lock this thread, these never go anywhere. You could write the most beautiful and logical argument for AA and it would just be ignored

"How is that racist? People say you asians, mexicans, blacks all the time. Get off your highhorse, you are from Boston. That says it all. West Coast Rules."

How is that racist? You jumped all over a poster a page ago for insinuating that all blacks play basketball (and I would argue rightly so, the characterization was out of line). But suddenly calling all white people lazy and blaming them for the rest of the world not being able to pursue their dreams in equality isn't racist? You're a blind fool.

gee this would NOT be a problem if they took out the quota all together... no such thing as urm,........ or orm for that matter haha...

^ West Coast rules.

Whites in California score 40 points higher on the SAT Math than whites in other state. You know why? Cus they aren't racist like you.

Thank you! West Coast once again RULES!

So what did we learn today?

Boston is a racist city.

URM Affirmative Action is good.

College Board throws out questions Blacks do better than whites in.

Yay!
