I hate ap chem!!

I was struggling with a lab right now and I decided I would log on and vent about AP Chemistry. Now, its important to note that at my school, AP Chem is by far the hardest AP, and the teacher is completely hectic; she gives the worst directions and in the end, you have to teach yourself everything. Not to mention, her unit tests are impossible! Furthermore, I hate chemistry to begin with. I honestly don't know why I took the class, I think it was just to have a 5th AP.

So basically, my advice is this: if you have any doubt in your love of chemistry and/or are just taking the class to have another AP, DO NOT TAKE IT!

And if anyone out there is enjoying AP Chem and finding success, please, let me know your secret. Also, if anyone else feels the same way I do, feel free to leave a comment!

Thanks, I feel a little better I guess.

Time to go cry over this lab.....

OH! Completely forgot, if you're taking it this year, what are your thoughts on the new inquiry labs? Personally, I think they are the worst!

I think the inquiry labs are definitely tough. Don’t know how I did on the one we just conducted, but I’m liking AP Chem (helps that I’m doing well). I wish I took it last year, but at the same time I’m glad I took it this year.

I think the big problem is how disorganized my teacher is. Also I have 3 other AP’s right now plus sports and music and clubs and SAT’s… etc. Ugh so stressed out, sorry to bother you.

I hated that class.

might help you understand a few things. just some lectures on ap chem

I actually like labs better, but my teacher is also bad at giving directions so often I just look it up on my phone during class.

Ap chem at my school is the best!! i look forward to it every day, but that is probably just because the teacher and the students are all good people! i’m sorry that your teacher isn’t that good!

From a dude who loves chemistry, reading this breaks my heart :frowning:
But yeah, can’t do anything if you have a poor teacher. Keep on trucking, I guess.

I agree with Storm, AP chem is the highlight of my day . Its challenging, fun and my teacher is amazing. :)

ALTHOUGH… our school destroyed our lab building (literally) so we haven’t done one yet…

What?! AP Chem was awesome! I guess part of the reason was because I had a great teacher, though.

I love ap chem so much

My D’s favorite class is Chem 2, which is more or less AP Chem at her school, just a little less breadth and a bit more depth. She loves the teacher and she finds the work to be easy.

You see its not even that the teacher is bad its just that she makes her tests SOOOO ridiculously hard! I mean I guess I shouldn’t complain because its good AP test prep but its killing my GPA. Seriously 3 out 55 people in the two classes have A’s. Just 3 people!

My D has an AP Gov teacher like that. Everyone gets 4s and 5s on the exam, but grades can be very low. It’s tough.

Our class has the lowest average grades and the lowest AP scores.

By schools AP Chem is also taught by a horrible teacher so I avoided it. I think between 75-80 % of his students get 1s.

if everyone had As it would be too easy.
work harder

3/55 with As is probably like an intro chem class grade distribution at some colleges.

That really stinks. But back to the subject, does anyone have any suggestions for a book that I could buy to help me through the class? I really need one!
