I hate asking so much questions....sorry.

But if I filled out the FAFSA form for the 2009-2010 school year because of my ignorance of when to do what, would schools just toss my form into the trash seeing as it's the wrong year?

Thanks a lot for reading.

If you are not in their college for the 2009-2010 school year then they will disregard the FAFSA. But do make sure you complete the correct one for 2010-2011 (assuming you are starting school fall 2010) in a timely manner (as soon as possible after it is available on Jan 1st). Having completed the 2009-2010 one will not count as having applied for aid or for meeting priority deadlines etc.

Don’t worry about asking questions. We would all much rather see you here asking questions now then see you here because you have done it all wrong and missed deadlines etc. There are several students each year that complete the wrong year’s form and do not realize it until after they have missed their school’s or state’s deadlines. That can be pretty disastrous especially, for instance, in a States like CA that has a firm deadline for its Calgrant.
