just hate marketing. I got nothing to say but it keeps shows out the box which sucks.
I hated it too. Best advice I can give to younger students is to not give your real email address to the college board and complete as little personal information as possible.
You might get a free application waiver in one of those mailers. If you are remotely interested in the school, do check before you put it in the recycling.
For schools loading up your inbox that u have zero interest in, unsubscribe. It reduced email and physical mail by a lot.
I have a different story. One brochure my S got was from a school that was so close to where we live that we never seriously considered it as an option. But the brochure got us thinking that the college could be excellent fit. Bottom line is we visited the college, he loved it, got a great merit award, attended that school, and had a fabulous four years (he lived on campus and only came home during official college breaks). So… you never know…there might be a hidden gem inside all that junk mail.
I do agree that if a particular college you have no interest in keeps sending stuff then unsubscribe.
There is an old marketing joke I like: “Only 30% of advertising works, but no one knows which 30%.” The moral of the story is that we have to endure 70% of bad advertisements because different marketing strategies work differently across target audiences.
