I HATE my college

So I have been going to this college for the past week and can honestly say that I hate it. Fairfield University offered me a full ride scholarship so I took it but I hate going here. People are so, I don't know how to explain it, maybe preppy, the classes are not what I want, the staff don't help with anything. Im naturally shy so I don't talk to people much but since it is college I started to and no reactions what so ever. I want to transfer but I know I wont be able to save money. I was thinking of applying to Yale, I was on their wait list as well as Columbia and Cornell's, What do I do, I dont think I can survive a whole year of this.

I’d say stick it out for a while. Maybe things will get better. But you have to keep an open mind - if you go in expecting things to be awful, it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Try joining some clubs, introduce yourself to random strangers (future friends!), and maybe school will be less miserable. You don’t really know any of them yet, it’s not really fair to judge them so soon, is it?

If you’re seriously thinking about transferring, do some basic research now. Specifically, do you have a reasonable chance (some only want junior transfers, some privates only accept ~10 transfers per year), and when are the apps due. If transfer apps aren’t due anytime soon, forget about it for a while. If apps are due super early, go ahead and submit one, keep your options open. When decisions come out next summer you can reevaluate things. If you’ve fallen in love with your current school, stay! If you hate it, well, you know where you could transfer to.

If winter break rolls around and you truly hate your school, you could transfer to a community college for spring. I’d view that as a last resort, academics are generally not great, socially they’re pretty dead. But they’re much cheaper than other options.
