I Hate Sat Scores!

So..I know that we're going to hear from UNC soon enough but inevitably I've reverted back to thinking/agonizing over my low SAT scores.

I have exactly an 1800 (terrible, I know) but it's not fair because everything else for me is really good. I'm 4th in my class with an unweighted GPA of 3.9 and weighted of 4.4. I take all the hardest classes. I'm involved..etc

And I hate it all coming down to three hours of a pointless test. I'm a bad standardized test taker. period. I have never fully finished one section of the SAT (I've taken it way too many times too).

Ok. so now I just sound pathetic.

But anyways, my point: I hate them and I've been told multiple times that "yeah UNC takes it into consideration but it's not everything" but that's the thing, it's SOMETHING. Do you really think that it's going to hurt my chances? I want to find comfort in knowing that somebody got into UNC with a score as mine...but on this site I have yet to find/hear of such a thing...

yeah man I'm also a TORRID standardized test taker.

case in point 540 CR 510 M 620 Writing with 12 essay and sure it may not be everything, when it comes down to the line between two people with similar stats who will they pick, the one with the better SAT aor the one with the lowest?

i also was never able to complete any section besides the final one

It's the only real way to compare nationwide applicants, or even statewide.

One kid has a 4.4 and is 4th in their class at Podunk High, and another has identical stats at Andover. It's hard to compare them just based on that. But the Andover kid will likely have much higher SATs.

It's the only way they can compare kids adaquately from different backgrounds. Just be glad it's no longer the ONLY factor of whether you get in. Even today, in England, whether or not you are admitted to Oxbridge is almost solely reliant on your scores on 3 A-Levels (basically glorified APs/Subject Tests). Your teachers have to project that you'll get all As (the highest score), and then you actually have to pull it off.

So even with the bad scores, our system works a lot better for you.

yea..my SAT scores arent that great either but i know one girl last year who got in with an SAT score of 17.. something...so just wait and see what happens.

^ that's hopeful..

heh i'm like the opposite. I have a 2340 but am ranked in the 14th percentile. Can't beat that!!!
