normally I just laugh at people who are very very competitive and want to retake something like 2200+. My situation is this: I'm applying to Ivies, and took SAT:

SAT Dec 2170 (710M, 690CR, 770W) from 1990 (all scores lower or the same) in SAT Oct.

I'm quite happy with my score, although Math, being my strongest subject, is weirdly low. Still, I'm happy and will not take SAT.

The question is, should I retake SAT Subjects in January: I have 650 US History and 740 Maths 2 (I would retake Math2 and perhaps take Math 1 and Physics for the first time)?

I'd have to study everything from scratch for physics and honestly I'm quite reluctant as I do not feel that increased Subject scores are that big of a deal, then I'm applying to the best schools in US.

Yes, and I'm an international. Please give your opinion.

You definitely only need one of the Maths, so I would suggest taking Math 2 again to get over a 750. And also, depending on what major you want to study, probably either retake US History or take physics.

For some schools, taking both Math 1 and Math 2 only counts as one test. The Subject tests normally have to be from different subjects. Whether you want to take Physics or retake US history (it is low for Ivies) is up to you. If you can learn a good amount of material, the Physics curve is pretty large.

If you retake US History, read the US History in a Flash by the Direct Hits guy. Got a 750 with it and a 5 on the AP, it’s like…it’s just amazing. And it’s super short and easy to read.

Don’t bother taking Math I. You’re obviously very intelligent. The Math I test, to me, seems as if it’s geared toward people who only wish to demonstrate competency in math, rather than excellence (people who don’t care to study anything involving higher-level math, mostly). Quite a lot of colleges (particularly those who consider themselves “elite”) will disregard any Math I score, especially if it’s coupled with a Math II score.

Thanks guys. As today is the deadline for the registration, I think I will just register myself for 2 SAT subjects, and see if I take Math 1 or Physics in addition to Math2. Unfortunately, I will not have the time to study for physics, thus if I do not feel competent enough, I can always go “the easy way” with Math1, which would require almost none preparation.

Do you think that’s fine? I still have the idea that it would not really matter, but it seems stupid not to do everything in my power to improve my chances.
