I really REALLY want to go to Boston College or Vanderbilt, both being my dream schools.

Problem:
I don't think I have a chance

GPA:
Frosh year- around a 3.3 with a coulple Cs
Soph year- 3.8 :)
Junior year- first semester I got a 3.8...but for the second semester I am going to get 1 B and 1 C, which brings it down to around a 3.5 (for the year I will probably finish with a 3.6)

SATs:
1st time- V:630, M:550, W:600
2nd time- V:580, M580, W:570
Total-1810
(I will take this one more time, and I will take hte SAT2s my senior year)

ECs:
Editor of school paper
VP Spanish Club
Service Club
Tennis 4 years
I was in a community tennis club for 3 years, but recently quit in April.
Work part time.
Graduation Commitee.

So what are my chances at:
Boston College
Vanderbilt
UCSB
Gonzaga
U of Puget Sound
Vassar
Bowdoin
Skidmore
Bucknell
Providence College

Thanks for any help you can give me!!

SATs are low, you need 2000+ at least.
GPA is a little low, but if you have taken a lot of honors/AP courses, you should be fine

BC and Vanderbilt are huge reaches. You have a shot if you can get your SATs up to 2050+

I encourage you to apply, but both are very unlikely. Both BC and Vandy are growing more competitive each year, and having both a relatively low GPA and SAT makes things difficult.

Boston College - reach
Vanderbilt - reach
UCSB - slight reach
Gonzaga - ?
U of Puget Sound - ?
Vassar - reach
Bowdoin - big reach
Skidmore - ?
Bucknell - ?
Providence College - ?

where do you live? because i live in alabama and go to a school where we have SEVEN kids going to Vandy next year. my point is that, i know some people that should have gotten in but didn't because of the amount of people who applied in my area.

good luck

BC is a huge huge question mark. I honestly don't know what they look for exactly. I got in with 2140 SAT's (1460/1600), 3.88 GPA, and EC's that include varsity soccer captain, baseball captain, newspaper club, treasurer of national honor society, and a few other little things in arts and french honor societiesalong with just about every AP and honors class offered. However I have a friend who did better on me on the SAT's, had my EXACT SAME GPA, played tennis, was pres of the community service club, and part of a few honor society things as well and didn't get in, despite getting into a couple other really really good schools (like U of Chicago). At BC its a crapshoot. Apply and roll the dice. No one here can tell you anything for sure. You stand a shot though.

no shot at Bowdoin, vandy or vassar. BC is a reach. i really dont know much about the rest but it looks like u need to rework your list

don't worry. those are mostly my reach or match schools. I have a nice list of safeties that I adore.

I also love the atmospheres at Vandy and BC. Here's a list of private schools I'd check out -- top academics, D-1 sports, and sociable students:

Boston College
Duke
Georgetown
Lehigh
Miami
USC
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest

get those SAT's up!
