I have a few ideas, and don't know which one to pick...

The title explains it all. Here are some ideas I was considering:

1) My middle-school math teacher. She was quite the character, and I would bring this out (I have the first paragraph in mind already). It would probably open with a vivid description. I would structure it so that each paragraph would be an anecdote that I would then use to describe each way in which she helped me -- e.g. love of math, perseverance, simple friendship, etc. It would be a bit light, and definitely quirky and colorful.

2) My love of languages. I know English and French fluently (lived in Europe), know Latin (can't speak it though...) and am taking German. It would be a create-your-own topic. I would explain how each language represents a different part of myself, or at least a trait/characteristic. It would be less witty, but I think more original and creative than option 1.

3) A completely quirky topic that I would tie to myself. I have some ideas in mind, but I don't know exactly what it would be. But it would be good, of course. And the most witty of the three.

I know that I should write about something that means a lot to me, and about which I can write most passionately, etc. But I would love writing about all three of these topics, and I think that all the essays would be fine options. I could write honestly, completely, and memorably about all three.

I want to craft an essay that sticks with the reader. I'm looking at some very selective schools (e.g. HPS) that all explain that the essay is an important factor in admissions, especially as a way to distinguish between many qualified candidates. Given that I have the time, I might as well write a great essay.

Thoughts? Advice?

Personally, I love reading witty essays. So I would go with 3, but thats just me. :)

bumpitybump

ultimately, it's upto you, and whatever anyone says here won't have a significant effect...ESPECIALLY since you say that you can write well about all three. lmfao.

If it were myself, I'd do 1 or 3, and try to emphasize the language somewhere else like the additional info section, but meh.

Also that there are supplemental essays so that you can potentially write all three essays and submit them to different schools, I dunno how that works.

Thanks for the advice.

Any more? Bumpbump. This forum is a bit slow, so I won't bog it down with this thread much longer. I would enjoy reading a few more opinions though.

I'd go with three. I enjoy bizarre, unique, and witty essays. =)

same with ^
