I have a really weird Q....

Does every Columbia University student receive their diploma directly from someone (teachers, dean...) in the graduation day?

I am asking this because I am talking about related thing in my SOP. However, I am not sure if Columbia studetns do receive their diploma individually.

Please tell me if you know anything about this. Thanks!!!

what? i am so confused

I'm also totally confused. I pray to god that, to the extent that Columbia is awarding you some degree at some point, you're a better writer than this.

Hahhaha c2002. I hope your superior writing also prompts you to capitalize the 'g' in God. :P

On the other hand, piallet is beyond remedy.

As far as I know, diplomas are picked up apart from all of the traditional walking and speeches on graduation day, in some random unimportant way. At Barnard, I picked up mine from the registrar's office. They also had them in the student center after Class Day, which is when you walk across the stage. Or you can have them mailed to you. But there's no poignant moment where the dean gives you a degree; they just shake your hand and you go get the actual piece of paper separately, without ceremony.

Someone from CC correct me if I'm wrong for your procedure.

Sounds right. In SEAS, individual depts have receptions for the families after the university commencement. ("Professor Terrible, I'd like to introduce you to my mommy and daddy. Well, I might as well introduce you to myself, since I only showed up to your class twice all semester because it was so bad.") You can get your diploma there, or they'll mail it to you if you ditch the receptions.

Thanks for the replying.

I am really sorry about the confusion. I am asking this is because we don't have that in my country. Graduation ceremony means completely nothing to us. Only one person gets chance to pick up the diploma right on the graduation ceremony, others usually pick up three days after the ceremony from their homeroom teachers. I am writing this in my SOP is simply because I was pretty shock that American students all have chance to pick up their diploma with other classmates and parents watching and blessing at the same time. It makes you fell yourself is important one. At least, that was my first time feel that we have "responsibility" to our own lives. Well, maybe it means nothing to some of people because it is usual here. For me, only a few teachers can remember my name, even I am a very top student. We have NO chance to talk to the teachers and don’t ever think about they will tell you “yeah, you can do it!! Why don’t you work on….”. Graduation ceremony?! It is just a "ceremony", school doesn't even take that serious.....Parents wont come and students are all trying to aviod go to ceremony because some alumni will make 1 hour long speech to talk about how much money they donated to the school. There is no way you can not think about you are about going to next stage in your life at all.....

Anyway, thanks for the help!!! =)))

BAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAHA.

How immature of me.
