I have motivation/procrastination issues

I'm doing okay at my school although I'm capable of doing better. My main issue is that I have motivation and procrastination issues. I have a set career goal and I know what I want to do after college but even with this in mind, I can't bring myself to be motivated at school. Furthermore, there is a lot of free time in college so I end up procrastination more than I should be.

Does anyone have any advice on how to overcome this?

You should read Cal Newports blog. He always gets me to stop procrastinating…somehow he gets me EXCITED to be doing my work.

Then again, I’m kind of just a nerd:p

Do you like your school? It could be a problem that your school was not the best fit.

I also had this issue. I needed winter break to get over it, but I do recommend a gap year, as awful as that may sound at first, it has helped lots of my friends.

Thank you PRiNCESSMAHiNA I’ve been lurking on this forum for over a year and because of the ■■■■■■ and unbelievably ignorant chance threads I never made an account but by you “linking” me to Cal Newport’s blog I decided to make an account just to say thank you. If you have any more inspirational blogs you turn to or blogs that help you with college I will be more than ecstatic to view them.

Then you obviously don’t want success enough. I can’t make you want success. Until you do, you’ll procrastinate. I badly want a good job in computational physics or something related to that, so that’s why I, King of Procrastinators, am doing well in college.

Maybe you need to leave college and spend five or six years seeing what it’s like without an education.

I had some issues with this, so i turned to yahoo answers. The “top contributor” told me to drop out of school immediately. So take what anyone says with a grain of salt!

Year. Off. Naow.

I second dantheman. How stupid does TomServo sound. Why the hell would you take 6 years off and realize “oh…education is important” and then go finish 3 years of undergraduate education. That sounds so dumb.

And he’s supposedly in “college.” LOL. Oh gosh.

I’m not taking a year off. I don’t see the point in it. I’m class of 2014 and I plan on graduating in that year.

TomServo, you’re right. Self pity isn’t going to get me the motivation or grades I want.
