I have no idea what I am supposed to do!!!

Alright I just started college this past summer and I want to major in something that can relate to sports. I was thinking about doing sports management but I found out that the pay was not good at all, so i deleted that from my list. Up next came business management, I like this major but I am not completely sure what I can do with this. I am currently thinking about doing Physical Therapy, I like the idea of helping people get back to full recovery off of a sports injury. The money is good, and I have a couple of friends that are entering the same field. But now i am starting tho think about sports medicine because I found out that in PT you will also deal with ppl that are trying to recover from illness and things like that. Also, I read that in sports medicine you mainly deal with people coming off of injuries or you help athletes prevent injuries. Can someone plz give me your opinion and how I go about majoring in that!

I also had a thought about becoming a PT and Business to open up my own practice....

When you mention Sports Medicine, my understanding of that term is that you are referring to a medical degree, perhaps with a residency in orthopedics. That would be a longer and more difficult path, and it’s probably not for you since you don;t want to deal with people recovering from illness and things like that.

It sounds to me that you might be looking for a major in Athletic Training. Some of these programs are standalone programs, others are a subconcentration in a Physical Education or a Kinesiology or an Exercise Science program. (You’ll find that these programs are somewhat different from each other and go by different names depending on the particular university.)

Do a search on Collegeboard.com for schools that offer those majors.

If you decide later to pursue physical therapy, kinesiology or exercise science might be good pre-physical therapy majors, as long as you have the science pre-requisites, too, which will generally include physics. Physical therapy programs are generally pretty competitive to enter, but PT pays more and offers a broader range of options than athletic training.
