im a senior right now and applying to colleges. i know for sure that i want a career in the field of SPORTS MEDICINE, but i have no idea what major i should declare in my applicatoins...so i was wondering, what major should i choose as an undergraudate if i want to go on to sports medicine? to anyone that replies, thanks!!!!

Kind of depends what it is under at the colleges you are applying to. For example, at Penn State you would likely apply to the college of Health and Human Development, at Ithaca you would apply to the school of Health Science and Human Performance. Hopefully the schools you are applying to have these options.

Sports Medicine is a fairly broad category. If you want to work as a Doctor for an athletic team or specialize in something like Orthopedic Surgery, then you can pick any major and also complete pre-med requirements. If you want to go Physical Therapy, any major will work if you meet the pre-PT school reqs. There's also Athletic Training, which at almost every school that offers it is a major itself (alot of students do Athletic Training w/ pre-PT). There's also Fitness Management, which mainly leads to working in a fitness center or as a Strength and Conditioning coach. There are MANY options within "Sports Medicine" and depending which major to study depends on what option you'd like. At Iowa State, most students major in "Exercise Science", which covers exercise physiology, exercise psych, etc. I came into college in this field but for a variety of reasons (mainly I lost interest), have switched majors. If you have any questions, PM me...I'm familiar with the topic.
