I have no idea where to apply. HELP.

I'm a female from Washington State!

Unweighted GPA-3.6 (Lots of AP and honors)
I know It's low, I had a terrible junior year, struggled a ton with anxiety, screwed myself over in school, 3.18 first semester junior year, 2.8 second semester. :/But I'm thinking an inspiring essay about the situation could explain it and score me some points? And I WILL be doing very well 1st semester senior year, with 4 APs.

I've searched a lot before, and I used to have tons of ideas and requirements for what I wanted in a school. But over the last couple of months I've really realized I have no clue what I want. I'm down for any and all suggestions. The one thing that might be an issue is money. I'm interested in schools that could offer me significant merit aid, as I don't qualify for much financial aid. However, for a very prestigious school, my parents are willing to make an investment. We can afford around 30k a year, but less would be ideal. Thanks! Any suggestions would be super helpful.

University of Washington? It’s considered to be a public ivy.

I’m definitely going to try for UW, but in-state, getting in is a gamble. I know people with 4.0s and stellar ECs who got rejected, but other people with 3.2s and terrible SATs who got it. I can’t count on it. :/

Try Western Washington. Very good (and beautiful) school.

Any cost constraints? How much will your family pay each year?

I agree with Western Wash U. I have 2 nieces that went there and loved it.

Did you do Running Start?

Are you saying that your cum GPA is a 3.6 even after the junior year grades?

Since you don’t have an upward trend, actually the reverse, that will hurt you at the more selective schools. However, the ACT is good.

With your ACT and your cum GPA (if that’s what it says on your transcript), there are schools that will give you large merit scholarships.

I think you will get into UW as long as you aren’t applying for CS

There are lots of threads in here about schools with good merit aid. Please read those!

I think your ACT score will help you a lot (and your SAT scores are pretty good too) and if your first semester senior year is good, it will reverse your short downward trend. Hopefully, your guidance counselor will help explain your bad semester on her recommendation. Don’t panic, you are in pretty decent shape for getting into most schools that might interest you!

For you to get concrete recommendations here you need to provide more to go on. Where do you want to go? Potential majors? Size of campus? etc.

Then you should consider women’s colleges like Smith, Mt Holyoke, Wellesley, Barnard, plus ones in California – Scripps or Mills. You might find they’re easier to get into and/or offer aid.
