GPA: 3.65 UW, my school doesn't weight but I've taken 4 APs and many honors.

SAT: 1790 but writing is my lowest score and I heard UW doesn't even look at that is that true? I'm also taking it again in a couple of weeks.

ECs:
Over 100 hours community service
Tennis and track (varsity)
Marching band all four years
Soccer ref
Several clubs

Do I have a shot? I've been working on my essay for a while and I'm expecting it to be good, and I have a positive grade trend, last year I had a 3.8. But most people at my school seem to think you NEED a 3.7 cumulative gpa to get in. Is that true? Thanks for any help, UW really is my #1 choice right now and I'd be crushed if I didn't get in.

I think most colleges only care about critical reading and math. However, a higher score on writing wouldn’t hurt and would raise your overall SAT score, meaning you’d have a bigger chance of getting in.

I think you’re in provided that you have a good essay. You don’t need a 3.7 or above to get in.

You DEFINITELY don’t need a 3.7 to get in. A 3.7 GPA will help your application, but it’s not necessary. UW looks at extra curriculars and essays as well, and those carry a lot of weight in admissions here. The person I know with the lowest stats to have gotten in (Freshman Autumn 2010 Application Season) had a 3.2 GPA and 1600 SAT (out of 2400). She had amazing extra curriculars and essays though, so that really made up for her scores. Don’t slack off on the essays!

@Wordaapp: Our stats are just about identical. Good Luck!
