I don't know who to ask. I don't really talk to my teachers much or participate.. is that bad? I didn't really show leadership skills either. What do I do???

If that’s the case, then a good time would be now to get your teachers to know you. First, think about which teacher you would want to write your rec (most choose English teachers because they’re better at writing letters, but I asked my anatomy teacher because I needed a science teacher to write it for me). Make an effort to stay after class time, ask a few questions about things you don’t understand (and if you do understand everything, just ask something to make conversation with your teacher). Although you might feel really awkward about it (I know I did; I didn’t talk to my anatomy teacher much, but just enough so that she would know who I was), it’s something you need to do. When senior year comes, it might help to write a senior profile for your teacher, which lists your activities, aspirations, or any other information that may assist your teacher in writing your rec. Good luck!

Many colleges never require a single rec letter. To which type of colleges do you plan on applying?

Regardless, it’s time to mature and push beyond your comfort level. If you’re such a wall flower, don’t expect much in terms of employment opps in the future either. Not everyone needs to be a leader or the life of the party. But no one is more invested in being your advocate besides yourself. You’ll miss many opportunities if you don’t take responsibility for yourself and your actions and how you’re perceived. Good luck to you

Just ask a teacher. They’re going to write nice things about you whether you participate or not.
