i'm decidingbetween multiple schools all over the US and since I don't have many contacts at WashU I was hoping to hear some feedback. I was wondering about the nightlife/social life...do kids have a lot of fun? what do they do when they go out? I was also wondering about how hard the kids have to work as I've heard its an extremely rigorous school where kids spend the majority of their time working. I'm so confused as to whether it is the right school for me. Please let me know what any info you have regarding any aspect of the school! thanks

To cut down the time it takes for advice to filter in from everyone, here are some links to other threads over the last few weeks to get you started:

I should also add that percentage-wise, students are going to spend the majority of their time working at any legitimate university you might choose, although I’m probably taking you too literally by assuming you wouldn’t know that :)

In my opinion, students here have it pretty good as far as having fun and getting an education at the same time. I know I’m enjoying it here anyway. I guess just look at the links above and let us know if you have any more specific questions. Best of luck with your decision!

While I don’t know how many multiple represents, you should use whatever criteria you can to narrow it down to 3 (location, size of school, school mascots, whatever) and then research the hell out of those in the time you have left. There is already plenty of information regarding any topic you can imagine for any school you might be considering on here already. By narrowing it down you can look at the posts and opinions on here, research other questions as well, and come back and ask anything you think was not already covered, although I can hardly imagine what that would be.

Yes, this is off topic, but just to clarify an above comment:

Ocassionally a student group will rent a club/lounge/restaurant/etc for Wash U students, either the Loop, CWE, or the Landing.

On the specific Thursday Night even that was mentioned, Wash U Seniors tend to go to the Landing to hang out. It’s a weekly Senior night or something. There is no specific club rented out for them, but they all congregate at one or two places.

Either way, the University itself doesn’t allocate money for any events like this. If there is ever a reserved event for Wash U students, it is put on a by a student group. It’s not like the Chancellor said “free beer on thursday nights downtown, on us!”

Basically, 1% of your tuition goes to the Student Government, which allocates the collective $2 million+ to all the student groups (WILD, a cappella groups, cultural groups, etc). It’s all student run, and student-decided, so if you have an issue with any of the events on campus (or off campus), take it up with your future peers :)

thursday night is the designated “club night” for freshmen (and sophomores). a club is rented out downtown and transportation is provided. the university doesn’t fund it, but an organization run by wash u students (i think) does, so only wash u students can go.

as students get older they go to the landing. its definitely NOT only for seniors… i know plenty of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who go weekly. basically its just a strip of bars.
