Honestly, why is Georgetown Financial office so bad? They stuck me with at least two loans, made me beg so that they would give me a second year Academic competitiveness grant, and now they cut down Pell and AC grants by nearly one third. The reason? I am apparently registered for only 3 courses which is not a full load. I submitted pre-registration request for FIVE courses and even though I might not have gotten all of the classes, the official results ARE NOT OUT until the 27th. So, are not they supposed to at least wait until the 27th so that I can actually HAVE the results and then cut down whatever needs to be cut down? Does anyone have a similar experience? The worst part is that they have not even notified me, I accidentally noticed the updated billing on their website. Now I checked again, and it seems that the AC grant has been completely wiped out.

I wouldn’t sweat it. Your aid’s going to go back up to the promised amounts once your registration is done and you retain full-time status.

GTransfer–It certainly seems that you complain a lot about Georgetown–do you think you should reconsider your decision (because I’m sure that Georgetown would be reconsidering their decision if they knew about your sentiments…).

^hoyasaxa1 – If you are really interested, I will tell you that when deciding to attend Georgetown the only consideration I took into account was location, strength of academic programs (SFS), and prestige in the international sector. If my decision was based solely on how they handle administrative matters, I might have never gone there indeed. They accepted me because I had Very good credentials. It is hardly as you make it appear as if they had given me a shelter and that I should be thankful for it. I could have gone to many other places. I do not think they can rescind my acceptance simply because I am unhappy with their shortcomings, along with being happy for what they truly have to offer.

hoyasaxa1, almost no one would go to Georgetown if they took into consideration the administration. There is a clear lack of order within a lot of the departments (including financial aid).

Interesting, because I was a Georgetown transfer from Duke University, and the administration (academic, financial aid, etc.) were significantly more efficient and effective at Georgetown than at Duke. Similarly, I am at a top medical school now, and Georgetown’s services are far superior (and friendlier as well).

^I honestly have no idea how good is Duke in this regard. But as an update, I contacted my Dean and she got everything corrected with the Fin. Aid office. I am very happy with her and the academics team in general because they handled everything - transfer of credits, course registrations - pretty well and based on my specific needs. Its mainly other departments that get on my nerves.

Glad to hear that the Dean’s office came through for you. I hope that you will have a great experience at Georgetown–my decision to transfer there was the best decision I have ever made, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have been (and still be) part of the Georgetown community.

theres definitely a lack of order within the georgetown administration system. its sort of all over the place. but in my experience if you have a problem and you manage to talk to a person with enough authority, they can fix it for you.
