I have to get a subject test handscored - will it get to colleges in time?

When I checked my subject test scores this morning the College Board website gave me a score for Biology-E when I'd actually taken, and previously signed up for, Biology-M. I called customer service and they told me that my only option was to get the test hand-scored. How long does that usually take? Will the corrected score be sent to colleges automatically? I won't have to pay the ridiculously high sum to get all the scores resent when I already paid for it the first time, will I? I already have the required number of subject tests for all my colleges, so it's not a disaster, but I'm still annoyed that something like this could happen. It just seems unlikely to me that I could've written down the wrong test when I know for a fact that I love biochem but am horrifically bad at ecology, and there was never any question of me taking the latter, so I'm assuming the mistake is on their part. Either way, it's a nuisance to deal with less than two weeks before application deadlines.

So... what happens now?!

Anyone...?

From other threads I've seen over time, it looks as though it takes considerable extra time to get tests hand scored. How long I don't know.

I'll bet that there aren't all that many people reading the testing section of the board right now. I suggest that you re-post your question in the Parents Forum section. Someone there is likely to know the answer.

I really dislike the College Board and hate dealing with them. Still, I'm wondering what would happen if you called again and asked to speak to a supervisor. Judging from our experiences trying to call them this time last year, one problem is going to be that they just about shut down for the holidays and it can be hard to find a supervisor until the second week in January. Trying to discuss anything but the most routine of questions with the non-supervisor types tends to be a waste of time.

Good luck. This is NO fun, I'm sure.

Just to let you know...

The exact same thing happened to me. When I got my score it said Biology E when I actually took Biology M. But I took the test in June.. so I had a considerable amount of time to get my handscoring. And guess what? It actually took 3-4 months. 5 weeks my a**. I kept calling CollegeBoard like every week and they kept on saying "oh this is the busiest time of the year". And that was back in September/October. I'm sure things are incredibly busy now. If you can, I would suggest doing it but keep in mind it might not reach your colleges in time. However when CollegeBoard does fix it, they will sent a notice to your colleges with your new score.

I don't know if you wanna risk it though. And CollegeBoard is really really slow at handscoring. Remember, they're a bureaucracy.

I went from a 650 biology E to a 760 Biology M though.

Hope that helps.

Call the collegeboard and ask to send you a verification form. Make sure you sign the form and pay the fee. By then the process for the handscoring will be started. The collegeboard will tell you that it requires 3 to 5 weeks to fix it; however, it might take longer. You have to call all the time to monitor the process.

You may attach an explaination letter to the colleges that you are applying for, as the collegeboard sends all your scores to the colleges.

Hope this helps.
