Man, everybody’s making such a big deal about this. For my part, I have a slightly harder time making friends with people who grew up with a lot of money, whatever their race or ethnic background. Mostly because when we go to Starbucks or something they’ll just pay for everything without a second thought, while I’ll be scandalized that coffee could cost more that 50 cents lol. Also I often have an easier time talking to non-Americans because many of them are a little more direct or blunt in the way they express themselves, which resonates with me because half my family are really pushy Iranians and I’m just more used to people who are really direct and don’t beat around the bush. Plus many non-Americans don’t equate being smart with being nerdy as much as a lot of the Americans that I know, so it’s easier to hang out with the non-Americans because we’re all serious about studying but not interested in being dorks either. But all these things are relatively minor, and the bigger deal you make them, the bigger deal they’ll be.

^(2 posts up…)That is surprisingly (atleast to me) the situation here too… But I’d figure the UCs would be a different situation because there is no affirmative action there.

But to the OP, why do you care so much about having URM friends. Have friends you want to be around. If you can’t befriend any URMs you probably don’t want to be around them.

Raefless, You give the people in your head races?
