I just can't do it.....

I can't take 18 credits this term. I really really wanted to so I coudl knock out a combination of major, certificate, and general ed reqs but I just can't do it.

I talked to the dean and she said that if I am able to go abroad in the summer, she will coutn one of the courses there (that normally would not count) as one of my requirements.

I was taking a Chem classed aimed at non-majors but i just can't handle it while taking syntax..which I definitely want out of the way. Syntax is incredably difficult and I have to read a LOT int hat class plus a term paper...ugh. ANd I also have papers and presentatiosn to do in my Italian and Fench classes, but those won't be as bad.

SO currently taking 15 credits, and if I go abroad this summer (I really hope I can) I shouldn't HAVE to take more than 15 credits per term my senior year.

This semester is gonna be a rough one, but only because of this ridiculously hard syntax course. I am kinda sorta caught up on reading...sorta, so at least I am off to a "good" start.

It is so hard to compare "hours" versus courses. It sounds as if you are taking:

SYNTAX
CHEM
ITALIAN
FRENCH

what year are you? Where are you in school? Are you taking a Chem Lab? What is SYNTAX? What course level and department is it? How many students take the course?

I am taking 6 courses of which 3 are graduate level. I think what people can handle varies quite a bit and we have no idea what year you are or what school you are in. Good Luck to you 'tho.

Thanks for telling us.

Taking Syntax, Italian 4, Italian Lit, French Poetry and Phonology....5 courses=15 credits. I dropped the Chem and will make up for it in the fall. The Chem I was taking didn't have a lab, but it was still a pain and I didn't want to deal with it right now with everything else.

Syntax basically deals with word order and it is extremely complicated and technical....bleh. I like my Phonology class...even thought he teacher is dry, the subject matter is much more interesting.

The Syntax class is very full...must be thirty-ish people in it...it was so full that two sections were made so I guess there's probably a total of 60 kids taking the course if you added up both classes. Its a Linguistics course and it's the undergraduate section.

Technically as of right now I am a senior, but since I don't plan to graduate until next spring, I consider myself a junior.

And yeah I mentioned it on the board just to get it off my chest at that moment. I formally dropped the Chem course today and am glad I did because that's one more hour I can sleep in on MWFs.
