I'm an international and a college coach said me that I have to take the SAT in January. Last week I began to learn a 4,000 word list, but I can't remember them!

How do you learn the words? I just hate to use those flashcards!

And could you please tell me how many words should morize to get 500-600 on CR?

Its a 1000 word list, so even if you learn 50 words a day, you'll be finished in 20 days (enough time to revise if you're taking the SAT in January).

Now, if you have problems memorizing, do what I did, read through the list underlining each and every single word you don't know, thereby eliminating a lot of words and getting to know the words you need to learn.

Now do 5 pages a day, memeorize it thoroughly, DO NOT revise the next day.
Continue till you finish it. (in two weeks)
Repeat the process. This time revise.
You should be able to remember every word when you revise the third time.

AND trust me, do this word list, because every single word in the CR , when i took the SAT came from this word list.

I think flash cards are okay. They make it easier to memorize and they also help pass free time. I'm in the middle of memorizing the 3500 word list in Barron's.

okay so i printed out the 1000 world list from sparknotes which is about 70 pages, and i'm going with the advice memorizing 50 words per day. The list is in alphabetic order, should i just mix up the order, because it is hard for me to memorize words that start with same letter or almost spelled out the same? Any advice? What did u do aritict?

i don't think you should mix up the order.
Because if you learn one letter at a time, the chances of you remembering it are higher than if you mix up letters and learn words at random.
(yes I know its a bit boring but I would suggest doing it in order)

barrons word lists are like 60-80 words each...50lists in total
an avarage of 70 words per list but it varies....
i started learning them out of order...jumped from the first to the 41th and back to the 12th...i think its better as you learn kind of equally for each letter, besides learning in order is way too boring.....
i didnt study these lists during summer so now i have to deal with them as well as with THAT BORING SCHOOL

as i said before , every word on the SAT (when i took it) came from the Sparknotes Word List.
And if you know the SN word list perfectly, then even IF the words are absent from the sentence, you should definitely be able to eliminate MOST of the choices (because the words present in the choices should most definitely be in the word list)

But, the main reason why I would suggest NOT doing a 4000 or even a 3500 word list, is because it is almost impossible (unless you wish to dedicate like 4-6 months just for SAT prep ) to remember ALL of the words on the test day. And if you do study the 3500 word list and then forget the words during the exam, then trust me, you will start to panic , and that is THE WORST thing that can happen during the SAT.

Well,I m learnin from www.takesat.com ...it also hav 1000 words,n they hav compiled it n divided it n 10 wordlists, each of them hav 10 groups containing 10 words of different alphabets......I found it much easier n I m learnin 1 compete wordlist a day(I m currently on 8th...)..so it will take a total of 10 days to complete.....
