Hi..I just got accepted on the Wes waitlist... I am already signed up to go to Colby College (waterville, ME). Can anyone please help me decide?? I was really pretty sure I wanted to go to Wes more, but I'm spazzing out and need some advice... anything would be great, thank you!!!

Well, what are you looking for in a school?

I'm copy-pasting a little schpiel I wrote about how amazing Wesleyan is:

Now, to start telling you why Wesleyan is amazing. First, some general statistics - average SAT is 700 math, 720 verbal for admitted students. It's in Middletown, CT. There are about 2700 ungraduate students. Housing is guaranteed for all four years. In fact, read The Princeton Review site for more general info, and let me now tell you the specific reasons why you should choose Wesleyan over the other schools it is often compared to (Tufts, Vassar, Brown, etc)

1) Wesleyan is the perfect size. about 2700 undergraduates mean you have that small school atmosphere, but hey - you still see new people from time to time! And there are small classes. BUT, professors tend to teach one less class per semester than at other schools, so they tend to devote more time to each class, and extra research!

2) The location. Middletown may seem like the middle of nowhere, but in fact, it's quite perfect. First of all, there is TONS to do on campus - there are so many random events constantly going on, so you never really need to leave. Check out http://www.wesleyan.edu/newsletter/ and look on the righthand side to see the events that are going on just today! But if you do want to get away a little, Middletown has some great restaurants. And if you need to get away, New Haven and Hartford are both like half an hour away with a gazillion things. And you can easily do a day trip to either NYC or Boston, which are, well, NYC and Boston.

3) The atmosphere. We have a reputation for being crazy liberal, but it's not so bad. There are certainly radicals who make their point heard, and it provides an interesting spin. However, there ARE actually republicans (albeit not many) and plenty of people who think independently on most issues. And yet everyone is very laidback, gets along, enjoys having fun, does good for the world, and loves having intellectual discussions. If you ask someone from most colleges what they think of the school, they'll tell you that it's a great education. If you ask someone from Wesleyan, you're more likely to get "OMFG IT'S AMAZING AND THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE LIKE WHOA." If you want drugs, they're there, but if you don't, it's easy to stay away and there's no pressure. If you want parties, they're all over, and if you want to chill with your friends, have West Wing sessions, or have a Jewish ice cream party - it's all there. The work is difficult but not overwhelming - you'll learn a lot but you won't get suicidal. It seems more focused on discussion and analyzing and learning - a classic liberal arts education, but more extreme.

4) The academics. Simply said, it rocks. You've got some of the best prof's in the country. Some of the most interesting classes possible. Check out http://www.wesleyan.edu/course/weshome.htm for the course offerings! And, there's LOTS of opportunity for undergraduate research. Especially for science kids, they love having undergraduates help out, because as a university, Wesleyan gets a ton of funding for post-graduate studies - but there aren't that many graduate students on campus.. There are only a few other schools where you can do such high-level work as an underclassman!

Sidenote: I'm not on campus yet.

Colby and Wesleyan are very different schools that tend to attract different types of people. Tell us about yourself and we could help you more.

Truegibberish!! I haven't checked this site for a while, but just poked in today and saw your good news. I'd been hoping you'd get in, so I'm very happy for you.

Colby & Wes are very different in many ways - student body, location, ambiance, and to some extent, academic programs. Normally I'd say to visit each campus again, but I don't think that would help when students aren't there. I do know from friends' kids who go or went to Colby that it can get pretty remote feeling in the winter. Generally speaking, I think the kids at both schools, though different types, are nice.

Keep us posted, and let us know what you decide.

And again, contratulations!!

Way to go!

If it was me, I'd pick Wesleyan, but both are very good schools and you should decide which one is a better fit.

Hey everyone, sorry I disappeared--crazy week! Anyways, thanks for trying to help, but it came down to locking myself in my room for the night and making a pro/con list, which basically told me there's no way I'm passing up Wes. So...Wes '09 here I come!! I'm really excited... IM me sometime at "cataclysmz"

W00t!!! Good decision ;)!!

congrtas truegibberish!! :)
