<p>Your class rank will help but I'd worry far more about the 650 Verbal than I would the 670 US History...they just total your top three SAT II's...I don't think they'll drop a native speaker language SAT II, though I've heard that Harvard has started doing that and because it's Harvard it's a trend that might spread.</p>
<p>In any event, it's not all stats in this league. Your EC's, recs, and essay need to be pretty good too.</p>

<p>Sorry to give you a heart attack. I think New SAT (three sections) plus <em>two</em> SAT II's are just fine. The Writing section of the SAT is the equivalent of the third SAT. That way the colleges still have the 4,000 point max to compare to.</p>
<p>Don't ever not apply because of something one of us may say. The selection process has so many twists and turns in it that no one can truly predict whether or not you will be accepted to an elite school. Just remember, essays are crucial. They give tremendous insight into who you are, since Amherst has no required interviews. And you will be competing with others who have your stats or better. But ultimately, it is about "fit." Will you offer something to the class of 2010 that someone else doesn't have? And yes, SAT's are important. But it is the whole package that counts, not just one score. Go ahead and apply - you won't know your chances until that letter comes in. Good luck!!!!!!!!</p>

<p>Your stats are fine; a little low on the verbal, but you will be far from the only one! Evitajr1 has good advice, and is the same advice I can give. The essays and EC's that distinguish you and separate you from the crowd are your best bets. Go for it! It's a great school, I wish you the best. Amherst only expects the SAT I plus two SAT II's. As you know, 2400 is the total for the SAT. Your total of 2150 is right in the ballpark, and your class rank of #2 is perfect. Amherst is a reach for most who apply; what have you got to lose?</p>
<p>I don't see what would hurt in applying. I'm a current Amherst student... and 670 on an SAT II when you have other, higher SAT II scores is no big deal... I had a 660 on my Math IC, a 680 in Chem. It didn't kill me. So a 670 on US History definitely will not ruin your chances. And like Evitajr said, it's the fit that counts. If you love Amherst, go for it!</p>
