thats funny. He is going to McGill.***. why would he go (mike that is.).

simple. mike is a hypocrite.

Haha, good explanation

Nothing for YOU to do. I happen to like the countryside and hate the city. It's way too easy to become just another party go-er and get !@#faced and drunk. I would love to go to college that is remote and is close to a couple of mountain bike paths or a river.

I also never stated that I hated McGill. I just stated the pros and cons of each school as I saw them. Just my opinions, you dont have to like it. Just thought I had a good perspective since I went to both schools and seriously considered both. And I never knew about the regidity of course "selection" until I decided to enroll.

I'm going because it is my 2nd choice.

hmm.. what's a better explanation,

a. I was denied to Cornell and went to 2nd choice

b. I really want to go to cornell and after being accepted, I decided to show the world how much of a hypocrite I am and enrolledat mcGill. Ha! Bet people weren't expecting that!

Oh, I would greatly enjoy seeing the many, many generic responses that people are going to post to this. Let's try to remember this is a post to advise digitaldove and give her/him some advice.

mike is right..I'm glad I can go to uni., and I love Montreal, but if I had the money/option, I wouldn't go to school in Canada...they're really, really broke institutions. I would opt for a less prestigous school, even...getting good grades at McGill is too hard considering how little respect it gets.

All my friends think that I would be happier at McGill than at Cornell. ...I do better in school when I am happier.

I want to go to McGill ... I've always idealized montreal and so for me its this exciting thing that I could do with my life, a lot more exciting than cornell.

[quote]
I'm thinking that I'll probably do better at McGill...

I feel like I'll be happier at McGill and my grades will reflect that

it seems like CORNELL IS THE ANSWER. I try to accept that I am going there and then I feel this weird bad sensation at the end of my esophagus.

When I think of myself at Cornell for two years I feel like I'm going to be in prison.

For God's sake, go to McGill. Don't put academic reputation ahead of your own happiness.

Quoting wu, "mike is right..."...How? He hasn't said anything concrete or logical since his debut.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but mike has proclaimed his disdain for the city lifestyle, while simultaneously admitting he settled for less. Let me, sadly, be the man who steps back and just wonders one, possibly trite, thing.

1) if you hate the city, why did you EVEN apply to mcgill? There are plenty of other rural, cornell-esque, schools.

Let me name a few schools that rival the cornell-esque, geographical experience: Vermont (UVM), Ithaca (sh1t, theyre in the SAME town!), Clemson (kinda, it's not too far from the Appalachian mountains), Darthmouth, Colgate, Pepperdine (maybe for you, maybe not).

I feel like having McGill as your second choice wasn't probably the MOST LOGICAL thing to do, seeing as it's not really situated in a manner that can appeal to what you truly love (does that make any sense?).

Well, to me, selecting a college is about academics first. I'm not going to school for the view, however nice it may or may not be. It's a school, you go there and take classes and hopefully learn stuff.

McGill was my second choice because everything added together, it seemed like it was less than what Cornell seemed to be. Yes, the location had to do with.....

wait, *** am i doing trying to explain to someone why I chose a certain school. I bet digitaldove isn't even bothering to check this thread anymore. drmambo, you wan to have a big discussion on this, then let's meet somewhere, assuming that you are at mcgill now. You want to start some "sh1t" up, then let's go. pick the time and place.

Final thought to digitaldove if you are still there, go to the schools themselves and try to get a good look for yourself. Don't let other people on some random forum sway your decision. These are personal opinions after all, and only your own judgment can determine if a school is right for you. You are ,after all, the one going, not drmambo, or me, or that wutang jerk@ss. Even if some of these people are legitimately trying to help you, staying impartial is impossible, seeing as how you are in the MCGILL thread, which means most of the people here will be pro -McGill

Ignore this guy^^^

How do you hate Montreal? Montreal is what makes McGill. Montreal is the only reason to choose McGill over Cornell. Also, Cornell's rep. really isn;t that much better than McGill's, as much as I like to poke fun at McGill's "Harvard of the North" status. I have a friend who just grad. from Cornell, and he's no better off than anybody else. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, that's a different story.

I just disagree with the go to McGill to get better grades. Good Luck. Canadian Uni's are real stingy with grades, and they offer far less advising/resources.

If you can manage a 3.7+ at McGill, you can go just about anywhere for grad school...

As usual, I agree with McGill Dad. He is a wise soul.
