Something just occurred to me. In the scenario that we are waitlisted while just out of the top 10% and then accepted from the waitlist after we've graduated and we are in the top 10%, is it possible to receive the 10k renewable scholarship?

these statistics from 07-08 aren't too uplifting. if you were waitlisted then, you had a .5% shot.

At a small school like HMC, the variance in acceptance rates is quite large. If the admissions folks are doing a good job, there's a good chance that they'll under-admit this year and they'll admit batches of students from the waitlist until they get several acceptors (I'd estimate a maximum of ~10) or the list runs dry. Of course, there's also a good chance that they'll over-admit again and virtually no one will get in. It's just a very imprecise art. I wouldn't pay too much attention to last year's figures, as that was a somewhat extreme case of over-enrollment.

The stats for the 10k scholarship are from the time you submit your application, unfortunately... 10 points off on my Math II. Sigh.

ThisCouldBeHeavn, what are your stats? Where else are you applying/have been accepted?

2330 SAT, 2380 SAT II, 4.44 W GPA (B's in Spanish and AP Bio). I got into UCLA and would rather go there.

The waitlist envelope is very thin, unlike Caltech (waitlisted there too :)). I was sure it was a rejection, especially since I hadn't been interviewed and when they said I was missing a few items, I didn't respond (though I did send them in).

"Eligibility is determined at the time of the admission decision only." It's when you're admitted; not when you applied. At least that's what they say.

Sorry, guess I'm wrong then. Don't mind me!

Accepted.

Found out yesterday.

Congrats! Not bad for a first post...

oh man.. i wonder how long it'll take to get here(Guam)... usually mails take like a wk! -.- sheesh... but anyway,i hope HMC rejects me...

I, being incredibly impatient, just called the Mudd admissions office. Decisions via email (for international applicants) will likely be released late afternoon, CA time.

I, being highly impatient too, called them and they told me that it will be an e-mail that will inform us internationals, but that they will go out sometime this WEEK. No mention of anything this late afternoon. I spoke to 'Judy', btw.

Are you kidding me? I'm going to have a heart attack, how can I possibly wait 3-4 more days...

If you are accepted you will perhaps get your decisions earlier through FedEx. That happened to me at one college, I received acceptance earlier and my friends received rejections in e-mail after 4 days.

I too just got wait-listed. Talk about a letdown, any of you guys know how this bodes for Berkeley and Duke's Schools of science?

Good point Almighty, that kinda sucks. I live in VA and got nothing today yet someone got accepted from Maine. But I suppose delivery times are variable.

I really don’t know what to say about the waitlist…but here are a few points

Some sophomores did not get rooms in Room Draw this year (in other words, there is a housing shortage)

In an email around the time of Room Draw, the admissions office said that they accepted roughly the same amount of people as last year

They also said that they expect less people to come that were accepted due to the economic issues this year

So, basically, in order to make sure that everyone gets a room, they wouldn’t be admitting anyone off the waitlist if they had as high of a yield of admitted students as they did last year. However, they aren’t expecting that high of a yield, so you still have a chance. I’m not sure why the waitlist is still so huge though.

Do you mean to say that they are shooting for the same amount of people as they were shooting for last year?

Haha, thanks for that update. [/sarcasm] Really though, I sort of figured that private schools would be experiencing under-enrollment due to the economy, but it’s nice to actually hear that they’re not expecting so many people as they had last year. I really want to get in…

USC’s not so bad, right?

Thanks for the update Miru.

I just took my name off the waitlist yesterday.

UPDATE:

I just called them today, and they will be using the waitlist! They’re in the process of sending letters and those who are chosen will be notified around the middle of next week.

crosses fingers
