question: ppl are making it seem like making your essay unasian is the best way to go. But if i faced academic difficulties because i came from korea in 2001, wouldn't it be a good idea to show my ethnicity?

You could start your essay with:
My name is [your name here]. I am Korean.

the thing is, a lot of Asians who came when they're 11 (i'm assuming you were 11 in 2001) had no problem with academics by the time they got to high school (i came around that time too), so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to explain your high school grades on immigration

hm... well i completely dont agree with Noober, cuz i think thats an unoriginal, cliched, and immature way to start.

And unless you can demonstrate that you had REALLY REALLY BAD difficulty (not like... you got Bs or something) and couldnt learn because a) you're a slow learner b) you're still working on English c) you're not that great at math d) people think you SHOULD be good at math cuz you're asian e) you were too busy doing something completely brilliant to worry much about school

then you probably should not write about being asian.

although i'm sure you can play that part up in a different essay if you wished.
and if you stick to this topic, dont be mopey. colleges (as far as i'm aware of) do not like mopey people.
