I know, I know Cheer isn't a sport but....

can it be a "hook" to get you into college?

So, how do schools recruit for Cheer?

My niece has all the "requirements" to go to an Ivy but is looking for a hook, among her various EC's is 4 years of Cheer with numerous awards. My son was recruited for an athlete scholarship so I know that route but for Cheer, do you contact a coach like you would for a sport?

If anyone has had experience with Cheer, I would appreciate your input...Thanks

PS: She is not looking for $$...just an edge!

Sockhermom, there was a thread earlier this summer entitled “athletic recruits in unusual sports” which had some advice. Plug that into the search function and it should come up.

Hope this works… searched for ‘cheerleading’ in the Athletic Recruits forum

[College Confidential - Search Results](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/search.php?searchid=34520680)

Thanks to both of you…

Hi SockherMom!
My D14 is a Cheerleader and this is what I have learned so far…

Contact the Coach of the school(s) she interested in. Have her ask about the make up of the team (All-Girl, Coed, etc). Depending on the College, and yes, they do recruit for Cheer :), the Coach should let her know if there are spots available and/or about the try-out process.

What I know about the Ivies and Cheer: Harvard has a competitive squad, but will advertise that they cannot “help you get in”. Cheer is not a sport (yet) that they can issue a LL for.

If she has her heart set on an Ivy…that is all the info I can offer.
If she wants to explore all of her options using her Cheer background, let me know and I would be more than happy to share with you what I know.

Best of luck to her!!
