I just had a music audition (piano) for the director of the music department, and he said he would send a "very positive" evaluation to admissions. He was impressed, and he told me that he would love to have me be a part of the music department.

At most schools, this would be as good as a likely letter. But this is Princeton ED. Do you think that the director in the music department has a big pull with admissions? Dare I say that this evaluation is as good as a likely letter? I'd appreciate all your input.

If everything else is excellent (grades, scores, recs, essays) then I'd say it's the tip that will put your over the top! Congrats on a great audition!

My child was told after being admitted RD last year that only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the students who the music department recommends typically get admitted. That's a lot better than the RD rate of 6% but it is not the same as a likely letter. The very fact that you got an audition is promising. They are very hard to get at Princeton and a recommendation based on an audition may carry more weight than one based on a tape. Also the school is making a big push in the performing arts, so the music departement may begin to have more influence on admissions. If the rest of your application is solid this could put you over the top. Good luck!

Is that for RD applicants? I'm going ED, so the acceptance rate is 30%. Do you think that, with the music recommendation, my odds are almost 50/50, because fewer kids audition in the ED round? Thanks so much.
