I know what I want but I cant find it!

Hey! Thanks for looking at my post! First of all ill tell you a little about me. I am a white male from New Jersey and am currently a senior of a pretty good school.
My ACT composite score is 29 (24-English, 29-Math, 29-Reading, 34-Science)
My weighted GPA is 3.9.

What I am looking for in a school: I would like a more liberal/progressive/artsy feel. Size: definitely over 2000 students, anything super big I get a bad feeling about but its not at all a deciding factor. Location: Cant be in a city, everywhere else is good. Majors: I am going to be majoring in the sciences ( Biology/ Chemistry). Cant have a religious affiliation. I think diversity is a good thing!

Colleges i've applied/ going to apply to:
Reach: Wesleyan University (may early decision to increase my chances of getting in)
Target: University of Wisconsin- Madison, Skidmore College(maybe?)
Safety: CU boulder, and University of Vermont

All suggestions will help me tremendously! Thanks!

Read point 1 of <a href=“Before you ask which colleges to apply to, please consider - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1621234-before-you-ask-which-colleges-to-apply-to-please-consider-p1.html</a> .

Why not any state universities in New Jersey (since you have other, more expensive state universities in your list)?

This is a very unusual list. Widely varying colleges (guessing that very few students have CU Boulder and Wesleyan on their list…). What is your financial situation? How about Pitzer? School is smaller, but it is part of the Claremont Consortium, so you are effectively on a bigger campus with 5,000 students.

@ucbalumnus - money isn’t really an issue and i am willing to pay more for a better education(Wesleyan/ cool location ( cu boulder). With that said i probably am going to apply to Rutgers now that i think about it.
@intparent - like i said to ucbalumnus money wont hold me back from going anywhere. Pitzer is actually a really good suggestion. I knew about the consortium but i didn’t put the two points together that it makes kind of like a larger campus. Ill definitely look into it thanks!

Lewis and Clark is in Portland but not near the downtown section. Has just over 2000 students and is very artsy.

Some other suggestions
Brandeis
Clark University
Appalachian State
St. Mary’s College of California
University of Redlands
Carleton College
Vassar (being male helps for admissions)
Oberlin
Kenyon (males get an admission boost)
Bard College
Beloit College
Willamette University

@whenhen Thanks a lot for your suggestions! I was looking at Vassar recently but i had no idea that being male helps for admissions. Thanks a ton for your contribution!

Are you an intended pre-med? If so, you may want to see if the college money will be available for medical school if you choose a less expensive undergraduate college. Medical school is extremely expensive these days (see https://services.aamc.org/tsfreports/</a> for tuition and fees – not including living expenses), and pre-meds often have little choice between medical schools, since they are lucky to be admitted to one.

No specific undergraduate major is required to do pre-med.

Ithaca

– Liberal and artsy
– Gorgeous location in a nice college town
– 6200 undergrads
– Cross-registration with Cornell

Diversity also includes political diversity.

@ucbalumnus I may be pre med i’m not certain right now. You make a really good point thanks, ill consider it.
@warblersrule Yeah I am actually planning on visiting Ithaca soon. Thanks!

Everyone else has mentioned what I would say, and I second Vassar and Pitzer.

Anyway, I’m posting to ask you about your name: ProgressBuddhist. I’m interested in Buddhism myself, and I was wondering how a teen gets started on Buddhism.

Colgate, Franklin and Marshall, Bucknell, Dickinson.

@woandering Awesome! I am an endurance runner and a few of my friends introduced me to Buddhism and i am very grateful for them doing so. I believe endurance sports tend to induce mindfulness which can help shape you into a much better person. People like Alan Watts keep me thinking also! haha

Even if it’s smaller than you’d like, check out Earlham, Beloit, Guilford.

William and Mary has an artsy feel to it, but is public so increased tution for OOS
