I’m not sure the whole “I’m going to the state school because of financial reasons” argument is going to hold up as a reason not to go to Yale seeing as Yale and the other Ivy’s have the most generous financial aid programs in the country

Don’t tell anyone. They have no way of finding out…

serves you right for being an egotistical idiot

^^ I know haha I would if I pick CalTech over Duke ALL day ANY day of the week

I would totally choose Duke over Cal Tech. Unfortunately, I got waitlisted by Duke, though I did get into Cal Tech.

Anyway @OP - you should just keep playing along. It doesn’t really matter since they’re probably never going to know that you lied. Though Yale does send a sweatshirt if you get in. So your friends might wonder why you don’t have one. And all the other information that comes in the acceptance package…

Are you seriously kidding me? Why would I choose an ivy-league leveled UNIVERSITY over an institute of technology?
Dude, we’re talking about undergrad here. I WANT A LIFE. Caltech is a great school and all, but I have a feeling you guys are just speaking out of your asses—Caltech is a really small school and wayyyy too focused on academics. I’ll consider it for grad school…

I really don’t see why its a big deal, seeing that Caltech and Duke are in the same league (Top 10 undergrad universities)…in fact, Duke is more prestigious than Caltech and some of the ivies.

^ I have no problem with that decision. It makes sense.

^Honestly who gives a ****? As much as I hate Duke, it’s a good school regardless. As much a tool as John is who honestly cares what he does? Let him do what he wants. Both OP and John don’t know what they’re doing or talking about. Let’s leave it at that, this thread doesn’t need any further posts.

This post was needed Matt. Gives us 32. Which when divided by 8 is 4. and by 16 is 2. and by 32 is 1. So the factors are 1,2,4,8,16,32.

Glad I could clear everything up.

^^ yes, you are right but I had to say something because he came into this thread which was somewhat legit but than john117 had to come in with a I got into “duke/state school is ok(not)/im ■■■■■■■■ post/duke is ranked 10/oh i know a chick and her gpa” disguised as a sympathy post.

im suprised you didnt even get to one ivy or top school

a 4.0 and a 2310, I feel really bad for you

^^ Of course I’m right! I’m in freaking BC Calculus! I can derive factors thank you very much.

That probably means his essays or ec’s were really not good at all.
^Don’t mean to ruin your spotlight but he was talking to me.

…

='(

duke is definitely not more prestigious than caltech. caltech is recognized across the world as being one of, if not the best, mathematics and science based universities. also, caltech is top 5 while duke is top 10.

I understand your situation. Schools make people …anxious about being seen in a certain way. You’re smart if you go to Yale, stupid if you go to your state school. But it’s time to break away from that stigma. I guess a lot of us do. Be proud of yourself. Be happy that you won’t have to pay for college, and that you won’t be putting your mom in any expense. I say, try to forget about the whole thing. You told a white lie. It won’t hurt your friends to hear that you really weren’t accepted into Yale, although now you are affected because maybe you really did want to go there and seeing everyone so excited about your “success” is making you sad and forget that you’ve been handed a great opportunity at your state school. Try to get past it, leave what has been done in the past and look forward. Soon (may 1st?) this will all come to an end and no one will care about where you were accepted. Everyone will just want to know where you’re going.

Good luck, and be proud of yourself.

You shouldn’t of lied in the first place…but since you’ve dug a deep hole for yourself already, I’d just tell your friends you can’t go due to finances or you got rescinded for a bad grade.

I don’t think there’s nothing all that wrong about choosing Duke over Caltech. They’re very different schools, and there’s a lot Duke has to offer that Caltech doesn’t.

That said, Caltech is clearly more prestigious.

Wait, what’s wrong with Duke?

Caltech seems like a horrible environment imo. Very hardcore academics and very technical.

Duke seems to be more of a well-rounded education and enjoyable place in general. And the people I personally know that go there seem to be far more happier than those who went to Caltech.

Honestly OP it serves you right.
