I just visited Ann Arbor this weekend, and although I didn't get to visit any classes because it was a Saturday, there were a million things going on. I saw a lot of central campus, and the dorms, the Diag and the main area, and the main drag were just fantastic. Even the frat houses, as not-into them as I am and as dirty and partied-out as they looked, seemed to really fit in well :D Honestly, I was SO EXCITED - those of you coming with me next year to Ann Arbor are in for a HUGE treat!

Glad you likd Ann Arbor Becky. Ann Arbor is very special. Even someone like me, who has travelled to over 40 countries and lived in 7 countries, would list Ann Arbor as oen of the most special places on Earth. And let me tell you, Ann arbor grows on you! If you loved it now, you will not be able to leave it in 4 years! hehe

Becky - As you know, I've been avidly following your posts since my D appears (on paper at least) to be your clone, one year younger. Because we have a trip to the midwest coming up, we decided to take another look at Michigan, which I'd earlier overlooked due to my bias toward smaller campuses. I e-mailed a couple of the voice faculty and received the most personal, generous, encouraging responses you could imagine. One faculty member is spending the summer in the Southeast and invited us to come meet her and spend some time with her! The response was more like something I'd have associated with a small LAC. In a personal e-mail I asked Lorelei about voice at Michigan and her response was very encouraging. The School of Music itself is apparently like a 2000-student small college within the setting of one of the world's great universities. Everything I hear about it - both the university and the Music & Voice programs - is extraordinary. Given your report from your weekend, we'll plan to spend a day there next month. Thanks!

i heard it was COLD, freezing cold, right?

frecklebecky, I am glad you had a good time at Ann Arbor this past weekend.
My daughter was totally against sororities in high school and has joined one now. She still has great friends outside the sorority.
Anyway, you will have a great time in college and don't worry, you will learn stuff too. :)

It can be in winter. It's the upper midwest, after all! For me it's not the cold that can be a drag, it's the cloudy days in winter. We have lots of cloud cover. Long underwear fixes the cold days, but I can't do much about the sunshine. It makes spring seem that much more gorgeous.

I don't exactly live in AA, but I'm extremely close (Troy) and the weather in the last few days has been gorgeous.

That is the really good thing about Michigan. We consider temperatures in the 60's or 70's to be a gorgeous day. TetrahedrOn: I'm in Troy too.

the winter blows but the fall and spring are AMAZING

Ah, glad to hear you liked AA, Becky - it's an exciting place. We go there quite a lot as my father is an alum and season football tickets have been in our family for decades.

Best wishes! Perhaps I'll see you around there next year when visiting friends on campus :D

Yeah, this past weekend was absolutely gorgeous - I'm sure the winter ice and snow can be somewhat devastating, comparably, but when the sunshine comes out, all is forgiven. :)

boysmom, does your son go to THS?

(you can respond in PM if you wish - I was going to PM you but you don't have it activated.)

No. All three of my kids are in college

Ok. I activated the PM

About the weather: remember Ann Arbor does not get the lake effect snow, because it is too far east of Lake Michigan, and to the west of Detroit. So while, it snows, you will not see the quantity of a Buffalo or a Rochester. There is far more snow to the south and west. It is cold, but no worse than anywhere else in the upper mid-west. Family members have spent two winters there with nothing but front wheel drive sedans, never a problem getting anywhere. Fear not.

Oh my god...I just actually got back from AA tonight.

BEAUTIFUL WEATHEr. I was so shocked.

I am picking between Johns Hopkins and U. Mich...honestly I want to go to Ann Arbor but now it all boils down to cost and ****...
