I’m a senior high school student and I have already submitted my college applications (through common app) but found out that I made a small, yet noteworthy mistake. In my common app essay, I made a tiny error: Instead of saying “its traditions” and I said “it’s traditions.” The mistake was putting “it’s” rather than “its.” Somehow when reviewing my essay and having my peers review it, we all went past the mistake. What should I do now? Should I email the college admissions and tell them of this mistake? Thanks for the help!
No. That’s not noteworthy. If you all went past it, it didn’t change the meaning of the essay. Officers aren’t looking to deny you. One grammar mistake is something stupid to worry about. Relax.
I’m willing to bet that 90% of the applications have a couple of tiny errors or typos. Admissions doesn’t care. If you are overtly sloppy and slapdash, they can tell - but this is trivial.
Relax, you are allowed to be human. Give admissions officers some credit. If you don’t get into a school it will not be due to one incorrect apostrophe.
