I messed up, Academic Disqualification

Hi guys, so as the title states I messed up big time and got myself into the “Subject to Academic Disqualification” category. I’ve contacted my adviser as soon as I saw my final scores for Spring of 2011 and have read some paperwork on the whole process but I’m a little unclear about the specifics. As for my excuse on the screw up… I don’t really have anybody to blame but myself. I kinda got caught up with a bad crowd and neglected my studies…

Overall, I’ve been a somewhat decent student. Cumulative GPA was around a 2.85 before this quarter and I’m going to be a 5th year and now it’s a 2.71. (I switched into my engineering major a little late so that’s why I’m behind). I’ve been under academic probation exactly a year earlier on Spring 2010… I know that a prior AP is effing horrible and it really hurts my chances of staying in the school but I mean my GPA isn’t TOO bad.

Not exactly the best track record but I’m definitely determined to getting my degree. So my questions to some of the more experienced users out there are what are my chances of getting to stay? I’m willing to sign a contract and whatnot but my main concern is on finishing my degree. Also, how exactly does the process work? I heard that the adviser you talk to have some influence on the dean’s decision but, again, do you know any specifics on this?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Sounds like you have to simply buckle down and figure out what don’t you understand in your classes.

Is it the math or concepts or both?

Are you doing as many problems sets as you can?

not sure if ^ this dude understood your question
anyway you should talk to an adviser. i don’t think this is the best place to ask this question; most of the people here are incoming freshmen, and i don’t know anything about AP.

So here’s how this is usually going to work. After the final grades come in, your College will compile a list of people who are in the process of being Academically Disqualified. They will contact you to set a date to come see an adviser. They usually use some pretty serious language in their email, which is fine because it’s a good way to get you to show up to the meeting. It should tell you in the email that if you skip this meeting, then you will be disqualified from Davis and that they will send you packing. So at the meeting, they’re going to make sure you’re still on track/ask you if everything is all right. After, they set a minimum GPA and the number of units that you need to complete by a certain point (minimum GPA and units is solely dependent on what the adviser deems appropriate). You sign this stating that you understand this and that failure to meet this will lead to you being disqualified from Davis. Assuming this is your first offense, it should go like what I said in the above. If you are a repeat offender, then there are more drastic measures that they take such as (but not limited to): making you complete courses at community college and a 1-2 quarter suspension. If this is your first offense, it’s honestly not the end of the world. But it’s a good wake-up call for you to get your head in the game.
