I made a big mistake and had come to a decision not to apply to college and to instead enroll in a community college after speaking to an advisor from there. However, my school's academic advisor read my essays and loved them and said I should apply and said she couldn't imagine a school not vouching for me which encouraged me to apply, so I asked a teacher for a LOR and the other one that I wanted to ask was out of office so I e-mailed her but have yet to receive a reply.

Also, I didn't get any transcripts sent out since first semester grades weren't updated yet which was really ignorant of me because I didn't realize that there's something called a mid-year report.

I e-mailed Rice and they said everything is due 1st of January, including LORS, transcripts, and secondary reports.

So I guess I have to give up on Rice. Is this the same for all schools? I realize this is all my fault for my irresponsibility but I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and if I can still apply to colleges with January deadlines. Thanks in advance!

Why wouldn’t you be able to?

@Hereford15 School is out on break right now so I can’t get some of the materials sent on time.

What are your financial options for college and what state are you in?

@albert69 I’m in CA. I’m relying solely on financial aid and I will also work full-time in the summer and part-time during the school year.

Have you checked the CA state schools to see what their application deadlines are? What are your SAT/ACT scores and GPA?

@albert69 Yes, the deadline was Nov. 30, and I did apply to them but it is difficult to predict whether or not I will be accepted, which is why I’m trying to apply to privates that meet full need. Although I have a 3.9 gpa, my situation makes it likely that I may not get into many schools that I apply to, so I need to apply broadly but I’m worried that it may be too late.

I see, thank you. We don’t get out until tomorrow, so I was confused. @jinx123445

Jinx, apply to your schools anyway and immediately!!! Some staff check emails and access their records during holidays if they know the student is trying. Additionally if the registrar is behind in paperwork, they go in to get caught up on college paperwork. Email your counselor and GC your VP and the registrar at your high school. They do try to help!

Plus, your HS staff is given some leeway on paperwork at the colleges. All you can do is give it your best shot. TRY now or you will regret it later.

@"aunt bea" The thing is that I don’t think the e-mail addresses on the school website are updated. I just remembered that my teacher that I’m trying to contact for a LOR and my counselor gave me their cell phone numbers a while back. Would it be disrespectful/ inappropriate to contact them while they’re on their break?

Jinx, if you can text them and ask if it’s okay to send info, they might respond sooner. Our teachers sympathized a LOT for our students and, if your teachers are anything like our staff, they’ll come through. All you can do is try! Do it before Xmas day, means ASAP!

Get your part of the application in now, by the deadline and pay the fee or send a voucher. Almost all schools will accept the other parts late.

A lot of schools know that sometimes the transcripts and LORs come in late (after the application deadline). Get YOUR stuff in on time, and email the GC and teachers about what you need. You can work with them right after break to get materials in, too. Don’t panic about it. A few schools might be super strict about it, but most aren’t.

There might even be some staff still at the school (though probably not tomorrow or Christmas) that could get some of your things out.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I emailed all of the colleges with a Jan. 1 deadline and they all said that as long as I get my materials in, they would accept the other materials later, as long as it’s in a timely manner (the only exception is Rice, which wants everything Jan 1, oh well).

Weird, I asked Rice the same thing and I got the answer @intparent posted.

@QuadMaster This is what they told me:

"To be considered for admission to Rice, you must submit all required application materials by the posted deadline…
Your letters of recommendation and your transcripts are submitted by your high school. Please make sure they submit their information to Rice as soon as possible, as their deadline to submit is January 1st. "

Great work Jinx! I wish you good luck!

@auntbea Thank you and thanks for the help!
